With players’ contracts generally ending at the end of May we thought that it might be useful to bring people up to date regarding the contract situation at the Club as it currently stand.
In modern football, where Clubs no longer hold a player’s registration even though their contract may have expired, players aren’t ‘freed’ as such. Rather a player becomes a free agent upon the conclusion of their contract.
The contract situation, therefore, at Firhill, as of June 1st, is as follows.
The following players are contracted for at least the next season, with the date of their contract expiry in brackets.
- Alan Archibald (May 2012)
- Stuart Bannigan (May 2013)
- Kieran Burns (May 2012)
- Paul Cairney (May 2012)
- Jamie Campbell (May 2013)
- Kris Doolan (May 2013)
- Chris Erskine (May 2013)
- Scott Fox (May 2013)
- Shaun Fraser (May 2013)
- Martin Grehan (May 2012)
- Chris Ketterer (May 2012)
- Willie Kinniburgh (May 2013)
- Johnny Lindsay (May 2013)
- Ryan MacBeth (May 2012)
- Jordan McGrotty (May 2012)
- Paul Paton (May 2012)
- Ryan Scully (May 2013)
- Colin Stevenson (May 2012)
- Tommy Stewart (May 2012)
Additionally, assistant manager Simon Donnelly has already indicated that he will remain a registered player for next season.
It would seem likely that Paddy Boyle, who has received offers from other clubs, will be playing his football away from Firhill next season.
Contracts have been offered to both Iain Flannigan and David Rowson and the Club remains hopeful of concluding new deals with those two players.
Meantime Ross McGeough and Graeme Shepherd have both left the Club and do so with our thanks and best wishes.
The remaining out of contract players are naturally free to join other clubs but their situations will be monitored over the summer. The manager is keen to retain the services of some, if not all, of them and it is far from unlikely that we will see some of them back at Firhill next season.
The Squad List here on the Club website has been updated to reflect those that are currently contracted to the Club and will be updated further as and when there are changes to that list.
