We are delighted to be able to announce, hard on the heels of the good news that Sean Welsh has extended his loan deal until the end of the season, that Jackie McNamara has been able to his squad.
The name of 23 year old striker Mark McGuigan may mean little to the Thistle fans but his arrival at Firhill, initially until the end of the season, is a deal that excites the Thistle manager as he explained to ptfc.co.uk;
“Mark was with Celtic as a youngster but left to study for an Honours degree in Physical Activity and Health at Abertay University, a degree that he is just about to finish. While studying Mark has been playing Junior and amateur football and first came to our attention when we played a bounce game against the Scottish Universities team. Mark scored twice in that game and in general gave our defence a really hard time.”
“On the strength of that we invited him in to spend a few weeks training with us and during that period he has continued to impress us. At 6ft4, quick and strong he has the physical attributes that we are looking for, something that we have perhaps lacked up front, but he also has the right mentality. After a few years away from the full-time game he has a real hunger and desire about him and that is the kind of player that I want to bring to the Club.”
“He is also an intelligent lad, which will help when it comes to coaching him and the type of degree that has been studying for means he knows exactly how best to look after himself. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action for the first team and he will go into the squad for tomorrow’s game with Livingston.”
We’ll have a photograph of Mark and more information later, so keep your eyes peeled on ptfc.co.uk
