Partick Thistle Football Club would like to announce that at 3.45pm today we received letters of resignation from Jackie McNamara and Simon Donnelly which triggered release clauses in their contracts.
Whilst bitterly disappointed we had no option but to accept this and now need to move on. Our ambition at the start of the season was to win promotion to the SPL and that hasn’t changed despite recent changes.
It is our belief that our current squad of talented young players, two of whom have just been called up into the Scotland under 21 squad, are the best to have represented our Club for many years. We are nicely placed in second position in the First Division and have a Ramsdens Cup Final to look forward to in April.
We have every reason to look forward to both the remainder of this season, and beyond, with optimism, but it's important to retain continuity.
With that in mind we would like to confirm the interim appointment of Alan Archibald as our manager.
Working on a day to day basis with the players Alan has played a pivotal role in our success so far this season and the Directors feel that his interim appointment will offer the short term continuity required.
Assisting Alan will be an ex central defensive partner of his, Scott Paterson.
We won’t pretend that the last few days have been anything other than difficult. The support that we have received this season from our fans though has been nothing short of amazing and Alan, Scott and their players now need your support more than ever.
Starting with Saturday’s game with Cowdenbeath we have 17 more matches to play this season. With your help a league and cup double could make season 2012-2013 one of the most memorable in the Club’s history.
