Thistle today were able to add to their squad signing 23 year old midfielder Ross Forbes on a deal that will keep him at Firhill until January.
Midfielder Ross, who has been a free agent since being released by Motherwell at the end of last season, has already played at Firhill this season, appearing as a trialist for Dumbarton when they were defeated 3-0 by Thistle last month.
Forbes first taste of first team football came not at Motherwell but at Dumbarton during a spell on loan in the latter portion of season 2008-2009. He made 18 appearances and scored once as Dumbarton lifted the Third Division Championship.
Ross, who has been a Scotlandunder 21 squad member, made his debut for Motherwell in a Europa League tie against Llanelli in July 2009. Indeed season 2009/2010 was his most successful at FirPark. He made 35 first team appearances, scoring seven times and it addition to his call up to the Scotland Under 21 squad, he was voted the SPL Young Player of the Month for August of that season.
In total Ross made 70 first team appearances for Motherwell, seven last season, and scored 7 goals.
Said Thistle boss Jackie McNamara;
“Although he played against us for Dumbarton a few weeks ago he has been training with us. We had him watched with Motherwell last season, along with Steven Lawless, and were keen to try and get him in. He’s been around a few places since leaving Motherwell and I know thatDunfermlinewere keen on him so we are delighted to have got him in. I think he could prove to be a big signing for us.”
“He obviously hasn’t played a lot of football recently and we’ll need to work on his fitness but he is a player with a lot of ability. He has an excellent left foot, is good on the ball and can deliver and spot a pass. I’m looking forward to adding him to the squad.”
We hope to catch up with Ross here on [link:HOME] in the next couple of days.
