Everyone at Firhill was saddened to learn of the untimely death of former Partick Thistle player John Flanagan. He joined Thistle from St Johnstone in 1965 and was later to play for Clyde.
He made his Thistle debut on 23rd October 1965 and played through to 1970, accumulating 184 first-team appearances. This period was not a particularly successful one for the Jags, but John still managed to contribute 40 goals, a fair return for a deep-lying inside-forward. He was smallish of stature, but had a big heart and his strong, penetrating runs posed many a problem for opposing defences, much to the delight of the Thistle fans of the time.
John’s funeral takes place at Craigton Crematorium on Thursday October 3rd.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
