After the disappointment of defeat at Palmerston Park in the league on Saturday Thistle will be hoping to make amends with victory in the second game of the Queen of the South double header in the Co-Operative Insurance Cup this evening.

Progress in the cup competitions are important for a number of reasons. There is always the potential for an unexpected financial windfall with a lucrative draw but much more importantly it can help breed confidence in the ranks and build momentum. Our better results this season have so far been reserved for the cup competitions, albeit against lower league opposition, and we are naturally keen to see that continue this evening.

A short time ago was able to speak to manager Ian McCall who very nearly has all hands to the pump for tonight's game.

"I'm glad to report that Stephen McKeown is fit and available for selection after missing Saturday's game but we are going to rest David Rowson this evening. As you may recall David took a very nasty knock on his shoulder against Forfar seven days ago. Although he was able to play on Saturday and did, we thought, very well he landed on his shoulder a few times again which caused him a fair amount of pain. We've decided, therefore, to let him rest in the hope that he will be a 100% fit for our game with Morton on Saturday. Elsewhere though everyone is fit and available which is obviously good news. Liam Buchanan came off the bench on Saturday and after a couple of days training and is looking fitter and he will start this evening."

"Saturday's match will have absolutely no baring on what will happen tonight although I do feel that this game will prove to be every bit as tight as Saturday's match was. Hopefully this evening it will be our turn to enjoy the rub of the green but for that to happen we will simply have to do better than we did on Saturday in the final third of the pitch. I felt in the first 40 minutes on Saturday we dominated the game  but all we had to show for that were a couple of half chances and Mark Corcoran's very good chance. We must do better than that tonight if we hope to make it through to the next round."
