Match Preview

After the disappointment of losing to a late goal at Dens Park last weekend we return tomorrow to Firhill where our recent record has been good with wins, without conceding a goal, in each of our last two league games.

A fixture with Morton can’t come under the heading of local derby but the close proximity of Greenock to Glasgow should mean a decent travelling support all the same which should add to the atmosphere for what is an important game for both clubs. Both Thistle and Morton have spent periods of this season sitting at the bottom of the league and presently sit with 12 points. The recent records of both teams are virtually identical as well with victory in one match almost invariably followed by defeat in the next.  Tomorrow’s game promises to be an extremely tight one.

Thistle go into the game though with a few injury problems, particularly in one area of the park, as manager Ian McCall explained to ptfc.co.uk.

“We’ve a few problems ahead of tomorrow’s game. John Robertson will miss out after picking up a hamstring injury. His injury actually isn’t a bad as we first feared and we are looking at about a fortnight out for John. Conrad Balatoni misses out as well and it is a blow to have players missing in the same position. You don’t want players injured but if they are it’s better if they can be spread throughout the team rather than in the one position.”

“On a plus note though we think that Alan Archibald should be okay for this game and Willie Kinniburgh has been playing really well at the back for us this season.”

The manager’s injury headache though isn’t just restricted to central defence though.

“Kris Doolan I would say is 50/50 to be available though and Martin Hardie isn’t available to play in the last of his loan games. The injury he picked up at Dundee last week isn’t a serious one and he has been getting treatment for it at St Johnstone this week. It’s the kind of injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks and it is just a shame that it comes right at the end of his loan spell for us. I would love to keep him here for another month but we don’t have the funds to do that. I wouldn’t though completely rule out the possibility of Martin being back here at some point.”

“Ryan MacBeth and Ross McGeough complete the list of players that are injured and added to the squad are Kyle Lochhead, Jamie Campbell and Shaun Fraser.  Stuart Bannigan though should be with Ayr United with the paperwork on his loan deal with the Second Division side due to be completed.”

“We have a deal in place with Scott Fox and his contract has been lodged with the SFA who at just waiting on FIFA clearance that will allow him to become a Partick Thistle player. It’s not vital though that that comes through in time as he can play once more as a trialist and will do just that if required to do so.”
