Ben Hall returned to the side and helped the defence put in a solid showing as ten man Thistle recorded their first home win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Morton. Shea Gordon climbed off the bench to score twice, the opener with his first touch of the ball sixteen seconds after coming on.
Hall admitted it was a game the team had to find a way to win. Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “It was a massive game for us. We knew how big it was, so to go out and get the three points was huge. It gets the first points on the board at home and we’re all delighted.
“The fans come out in numbers at home and we’ve disappointed them here this season so to finally send them home happy is great. We want to show them good winning football and we maybe ground it out, but we got the win. It’s a monkey off our back a little and we can look ahead now.”
After the poor performance against Ayr United, Hall knew a reaction was required and he felt that was on show.
“It was important we got a reaction after last week, we had to show we were better than that and I thought we done that but it can’t just be this week we have to show that every week.”
The big moment of the match came when Stuart Bannigan was sent off and Hall was having flash backs when the red card was produced.
“The way we won the game too was great. With Banzo being sent off we had to all work really hard and I thought we done that.
“On my debut against Ayr in August we went down to nine men so I was having flash backs when Banzo got sent off, but I thought we dug in really well.”
Hall returned to the side for his first start in a number of weeks and he hopes he has shown the manager enough to keep the jersey.
“I’ve had to wait a while to get my chance back in the team and it was up to me to try and grasp that chance, I thought I done well so hopefully I can keep my place.
“As a defence I thought we limited them, with the three at the back it gave us that little extra bit of extra protection and we dealt with everything they tried to throw at us, especially towards the end.”
Next up is two cup games, firstly away to Stenhousemuir in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup Quarter Final and despite the disappointment of a break in the league it’s a game the Thistle number five is looking forward to
“It’s disappointing we have a break from the league now but it’s a chance to progress in the cups, two competitions that we want to do well in.
“Saturday will be a tough game, we have to be professional and put everything into it, we know a semi-final is a reward for a victory so we will go out and try and make that happen.”
