Sean McGinty is looking forward to the trip to Palmerston Park tomorrow as Thistle look to kick off December with a victory against Queen of the South. The Jags central defender spoke to ptfc.co.uk to look ahead to the clash with the Doonhamers.
“We’re looking forward to the trip. Obviously, last week was very disappointing with Tam getting sent off early doors, conceding the goal and we didn’t defend well enough as a team for the rest of the game. It’s in the past now and we’ll move on from it. Before that game we had been on a good run so we need to take the confidence from that into tomorrow’s game against Queen of the South and start putting another run together to the end of the year.”
Sean was called into action after just a handful of minutes last weekend and knows that you have to be prepared for any scenario during a match.
“I did the warm up before the game, I was just getting sat down and then Tam got sent off and I was called upon straight away. I was ready to come on, as a substitute you have to be ready at any moment to go out onto the pitch and do a job for the team. It’s tough coming on that early but I don’t think that’s an excuse – we need to defend better as a team. We’ve got to bounce back and get another run where we put together a string of results heading into the new year.”
There were a number of defensive changes which unsettled the Jags defence last weekend but McGinty believes that the squad has enough strength in depth to cope with injuries and suspensions.
“It’s not ideal. You’d want your two centre backs on the pitch but we lost Tam to an early red and Stevie had a bit of a knock so we had to adjust. Penners came into left centre half and did well. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we need to go into Saturday and look to pick up three points leading into two home matches.”
The Jags number six is looking forward to the run of games before the new year as Thistle look to close the gap on the sides above them in the Ladbrokes Championship table.
“It’s important that we take advantage of our two home games after this match. If we can get a result down in Dumfries then it should boost us into back to back home games. We’ve got to look at Queen of the South game first, we went there about this time last year and lost but we also won when we needed to on the last day of the season so we’re hoping it is like it was in May when we get to full time on Saturday.
“It’s a good test. They did really well to get a victory late on at Dens Park last weekend but we know we can definitely go down there and get three points. We’ll be looking to get a result like we did on the last day of last season.”
