A full pathway from girls’ football to Partick Thistle Women’s FC will be accessible to young female footballers for the first time after the Jags agreed a new partnership with Drumchapel United.
As the 2020 season draws nearer, Partick Thistle Women’s FC is proud to announce the official partnership with Drumchapel United, providing a pathway from under-9s level to women’s football.
The two clubs began discussions about a potential partnership last summer and have now reached an agreement which will offer girls within the local community a chance to advance their careers more easily in the women’s game.
Drumchapel United is well-regarded in the women’s game with more than 70 players at the club enjoying regular training and competitive football. The age groups in the pathway will be under 9s, under 11s, under 13s, under 15s and under 17s. From under-17 level, players will be able to make the step up to Partick Thistle Women’s FC. However, in 2021, Drumchapel will introduce its own women’s team to add an extra step in the pathway.
Coaches from both organisations will work together to ensure that the girls coming through the pathway have the best possible opportunity to access the highest level of Scottish women’s football.
On the agreement, Drumchapel United club secretary and coach, Scott Bland said:
“Drumchapel United is delighted to be part of a footballing partnership with Partick Thistle, building on our club’s success developing girls from our local area over the last four years.
“This partnership now gives our girls a full player pathway from our girls’ academy to the Partick Thistle first team as well as providing our volunteer coaches an opportunity to observe and coach in a professional club set-up.”
PTWFC assistant manager, Beth Adamson added:
“This exciting new partnership will be great for both sides moving forward. Drumchapel United has carried out some exceptional work in the community over recent years and we’re very pleased that they’ve joined up with us to form this pathway. We look forward to working with everyone from Drumchapel United during the upcoming season and years ahead.”
