Our last Centenary Fund draw had the top prize of a brand new car from our friends at Macklin Motors.
The lucky winner of the April draw, Mary Shanks, chose to take the alternative cash prize on offer from the Fund.
Mary has been a Jags fan since 1950 and remembers attending Firhill when the stadium had the greyhound racetrack surrounding the pitch. Mary’s late husband wasn’t a football fan so it became tradition for her to attend games with her brother, James, to support the Jags. Both Mary and James are season ticket holders in the Jackie Husband Stand.
Although Mary missed the 1971 League Cup Final through family commitments, she fondly remembers watching players such as Jimmy Walker, Johnny McKenzie and David McParland. Her all-time favourite Thistle players, however, come from the modern era in the shape of Kris Doolan and Alan Archibald.
Speaking after she had been contacted about her win, Mary said:
“I was in total shock when I was told that I had won. At first I thought it was a fraud call, but I recognised Ian McCall’s voice and had to sit down when he told me that I had won. When we get through this lockdown period, I’m going to use my winnings to help out my family and get repairs to my roof.
“I’ve been part of the Centenary Fund since it started and I would recommend it to anyone. It’s a small amount each month and it is really worth it. You’ve got a better chance of winning than the lottery.”
The October Centenary Fund prize draw is the next chance to win the car but there are cash and non-cash prizes available every month, including, match day hospitality, signed shirts and autographed footballs.
There are bronze, silver and gold level memberships available to suit every supporter. Memberships, which begin at just £5 per month, are available to purchase through standing order, or online at ptfc.co.uk
