90’Full Time Report

It's been an excellent few days for Thistle. Tuesday's 2-0 win over Clyde is followed up for a 5-0 win tonight over Montrose.

Two Zak Rudden first half goals had Thistle control at the break with second half strikes from Stuart Bannigan, Scott Tiffoney and Shea Gordon completing an impressive win.

It's a win that takes Thistle up to second in the table just a solitary point behind leaders Falkirk albeit they now have a game in hand.

90’Full Time

88’

Sneddon makes a good stop from McGale's shot from distance to protect his clean sheet.

84’Montrose corner from the left

Nice bit of defending from Bell although Montrose win a corner.

82’

A thundering drive from Cardle is just a matter of inches too high as Thistle look for a sixth goal.

80’Thistle substitution: Blair Lyons replaces Shea Gordon
78’Thistle substitution: Andy Geggan replaces Ross Docherty
77’Thistle substitution: Connor Murray replaces Zak Rudden
76’Goal Thistle! Shea Gordon
Thistle 5 - Montrose 0

It's five for The Jags! Gordon is in the right spot to divert a low cross from the left away from Fleming and into the net.

75’

Cardle finds Rudden to his right. Rudden is a shade too wide for a shot of his own so squares the ball across goal where MacIver is a little unlucky not to connect with the ball.

74’

Another confident claim from Sneddon.

73’Montrose corner from the left

72’

Sneddon makes an excellent catch under pressure from Antoniazzi's corner.

71’Montrose corner from the right
71’Montrose substitution: Ross Campbell replaces Sean Dillon
70’Montrose substitution: Paul Watson replaces Russell McLean

70’

Montrose have a free kick wide on the Thistle right after a Cardle foul.

69’

Thistle demand a penalty as Fleming looks to barge MacIver to the ground but play continues.

66’Thistle corner from the right

Cardle's first involvement in the game sees him see a shot from the edge of the box deflected narrowly wide.

64’Thistle substitution: Ross MacIver replaces Brian Graham
64’Thistle substitution: Joe Cardle replaces Scott Tiffoney
60’Montrose substitution: Robbie McGale replaces Graham Webster
60’Montrose substitution: Liam Callaghan replaces Terry Masson
58’Montrose Booking - Andrew Steeves

58’

Williamson is caught late wide on the right by Steeves who is booked.

57’

Thistle close to a fifth. Montrose just can't cope with Tiffoney at the moment. His cross is cleared this time but seized upon by Docherty whose shot just rises over the bar.

54’Goal Thistle! Scott Tiffoney
Thistle 4 - Montrose 0

There is a touch of good fortune about this one but Tiffoney deserves that bit of luck. He twists his way to an opening inside the box and his shot takes a deflection on its way past Fleming.

51’Goal Thistle! Stuart Bannigan
Thistle 3 - Montrose 0

Docherty and Bannigan are both over the free kick. It's the left foot of Bannigan, rather than the right of Docherty, that hits it and there is only one place that ball is going - the back of the Montrose net.

50’

Tiffoney is fouled almost on the very edge of the Montrose box. Just a little right of centre.

49’

Foster crosses from the left but the referee spots a foul as Rudden tries to get on the end of that cross.

47’

Both Ballantyne and Webster see shots blocked as Montrose try and get back into the game with an early second half goal.

45’Montrose substitution: Craig Johnston replaces Lewis Milne

45’Kick-Off (2nd half)
45’Half Time Report

Montrose might feel slightly hard done by to be trailing by two at the break but Thistle have been a threat as attacking force all night have been clinical in front of goal scoring twice through Zak Rudden who must wish this week would never end.

The visitors though are far from out of this game and have shown a real willingness to push forward and although Sneddon hasn't been unduly tested they have had the Thistle defence under pressure at times.

The Thistle job is but half done.

45’Half-Time
44’Montrose corner from the right

42’

There are appeals for offside from Montrose as Tiffoney comes back to collect a pass but the flag stays down. Tiffoney shoots from just outside the box but this time Fleming isn't too troubled and saves comfortably.

38’Goal Thistle! Zak Rudden
Thistle 2 - Montrose 0

He's on fire at the moment and that's an even better strike than his second against Clyde on Tuesday. Fleming is left with no chance at all as Rudden thunders a shot into the back of the Montrose net.

37’

And just to underline that last point, Bannigan is robbed off possession and the ball is worked to McLean whose low shot is saved by Sneddon.

35’

This is a very different, very open, game from the one Thistle faced on Tuesday presenting a very different type of challenge. Montrose are keen to get forward at every opportunity and Thistle are never allowed to settle in possession in their own half.

27’

Tiffoney's corner goes deep where Graham's header keeps things alive. Montrose struggle to clear until Docherty is adjudged to have committed a foul.

27’Thistle corner from the right

26’

Masson is fouled but the referee plays advantage and Masson isn't too far off target with his shot from just outside the Thistle box.

25’Thistle Booking - Darren Brownlie

24’

An excellent Tiffoney cross is cleared just ahead of Docherty as Thistle to try and press home the advantage that Rudden's goal has given them.

19’Goal Thistle! Zak Rudden
Thistle 1 - Montrose 0

It's a third goal of the week for Zak Rudden and the vital opening goal tonight. Foster does the hard work down the left sending over a perfectly weighted cross for Rudden to fire home from 8 yards out.

18’

It's a really good corner from Tiffoney and Graham peels off his marker but doesn't make the right contact with his header and the ball doesn't threaten the Montrose goal.

18’Thistle corner from the left
17’Montrose Booking -

17’

Sneddon comes off his line to make a confident catch from Milne's corner.

16’Montrose corner from the left

15’

A great touch from Williamson gets him into a position to cross from the right. His cross is just too high for Rudden. The ball is picked up on the left and Foster's cross is cleared too.

12’

Milne takes the corner and tries to find McLean at the front post but he can do no more than divert the ball harmlessly wide of the Thistle goal.

11’Montrose corner from the left

10’

Docherty's cross strikes a defender and there are shouts for a Thistle penalty.

10’

Bannigan clips a free kick into the box looking for head of Brownlie but the referee spots a push and gives Montrose a free kick.

07’

With just a one man Thistle wall, Milne elects to shoot for goal from the free kick. The ball spins off Docherty which allows Sneddon to make an easy save.

06’

Brownlie fouls McLean and Montrose win themselves a free kick in a central position albeit some distance from the Thistle goal.

03’

Nearly the perfect start for Thistle. The ball drops to Graham about 15 yards out. He can't make clean contact with his shot that clips the top of Fleming's crossbar.

01’

Bell has to hurry to get ahead of McLean and get the ball back to Sneddon who completes the clearance.

00’

Montrose get the game underway with Thistle shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the first half.

00’Kick-Off

00’Introduction

Just 48 hours after recording a vital 2-0 win over Clyde Thistle return to action this evening with an every bit as important fixture against Montrose.

After fielding an unchanged starting eleven against Clyde, Thistle boss Ian McCall has elected to make three changes to his side for tonight's fixture.

Ryan Wiliamson, Shea Gordon and two goal hero from Tuesday, Zak Rudden all start tonight.

Ciaran McKenna, Joe Cardle and Connor Murray are the trio that make way for them.

With tomorrow being the 100th anniversary of, to date, our sole Scottish Cup triumph, Thistle will be wearing the special anniversary top tonight and will be wearing jerseys numbered 1-11.
