The fixture list for the 2021/22 SWPL 2 season has been released and some changes to the format of the division have also been announced.
Unlike last season when two teams were automatically promoted to the top flight of Scottish women’s football, there will only be one automatic promotion spot this term. There will, however, be a one-legged play-off game contested between the SWPL 1’s ninth placed side and the runners up in the SWPL 2 to decide who will take the final spot in the top tier for the 2022/23 campaign.
This season there will only be eight teams in the SWPL 2 though two further sides will be added from the Championship for the 22/23 term. We will play every other team in the division three times over the course of the season making for a total of 27 fixtures.
PTWFC will start the league season on Sunday, 5th September with a Glasgow derby against Queen’s Park at home. Thistle also played the Spiders on the opening day of last season, beating them 3-0 at Lesser Hampden.
The Jags’ first away game of the SWPL 2 campaign will be against Stirling University at the Stirling University Sports Ground on Sunday, 12th September.
Our season will conclude with a trip to Perth to take on St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Sunday, 15th May 2022.
Before the start of the SWPL 2 season, Thistle will play three SWPL Cup group stage games to get their competitive campaign started beginning with a game against last season’s SWPL 1 runners up Celtic at home on Sunday, August 8th.

“We’re really looking forward to the new SWPL 2 season. I thoroughly enjoyed my first season as manager here and I can’t wait for season two to begin. Like last year, we have Queen’s Park on the opening day and that’ll be a really tough game to start off with but we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ve started our pre-season training and the whole squad is working hard to make sure we’re ready for the competitive games starting because our aim is to be in that automatic promotion place come the end of the season.”
