Smith: We want the games to keep coming

After two victories at home in a row, Thistle hope to make it three this Saturday against Queen of the South. Ahead of that game Cammy Smith sat down with ptfc.co.uk to give his thoughts ahead of this fixture.

“We’re looking forward to it after a good win on Tuesday night, we just want the games to keep coming so we’re looking forward to it.”

Smith talked further about what the impact of the previous two wins against Airdrieonians and Ayr United has been in terms of confidence for the team.

“I think we’ve been like this for a good few months now we’ve been on a good run, we’ve not had many defeats and we don’t want that to change. We’re picking up wins, when the games are in the balance we’re managing to scrape them over the line. At this stage in the season and the conditions that’s all we can really do.

“With the type of wins we’ve picked up over the last couple of weeks, even the draw against Kilmarnock, they lead you to a successful season and there’s still a long way to go but we’re hoping for that.”

It’s the fourth games against Queen of the South this season for the Maryhill men with each side having a win each. With Queen’s looking for points to stay in the division and Thistle on the charge to keep challenging at the top, Smith thinks the previous experiences will prove key during the ninety minutes.

“I think the first game of the season was a good win and then, the cup game is different we change line-ups and stuff like that; it’s not a priority although we wanted to progress and then we played them down there in December and it was a tough game, tough conditions and a tough surface, a draw was probably a fair result that day.

“If we can take what we’ve done over the last few weeks and stamp our authority on the game, try to get out on the front foot and win our individual battles then we’ll be a match for anyone.”

A busy February schedule got off to a perfect start on Tuesday night and Cammy is looking to keep that going for as long as possible.

“I think we’ve got a good squad but obviously you want to keep the momentum going and I think with wins like Tuesday it breathes confidence into us and you want to keep playing. We’ve got lots of games coming up but when you’re on a good run and at the top end of the table, which we are, you want the games to keep coming so we’re looking forward to it.”
