It’s a sixth meeting of the competitive season against Dunfermline Athletic which brings the curtain down on our home regular season campaign. The Pars were the first team to visit Maryhill this season, over nine months ago, and with two games to go there is plenty to play for. Thistle know a win would all but secure a promotion play-off place and keep the promotion dream alive while the Pars are out of the relegation play-off spots on virtue of their head to head performance against Ayr United. For Scott Tiffoney however, it’s just another game and he spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of tomorrow’s match.
“Saturday is another chance for us to get the points we need to get ourselves secure in that play-off spot. It was a really tough one to take last weekend when we were just a couple of moments away from maintaining our six point gap against Raith Rovers but it’s in the past now.
“The good thing is we are still in control of our own fate. We know a win in one of our last two games should get us there, barring a huge win for Raith Rovers in one of their games to swing the goal difference. We obviously want to get it this weekend so we can sign off our regular league season at Firhill on a high but also so we can secure that play-off place.”
It’s our sixth meeting of the season against Dunfermline with both sides recording two wins each and Tiffoney is anticipating an even match.
“Yeah, we’ve played them quite a lot this season which is sometimes how it goes. They’ve beaten us comprehensively a couple of times, including our trip to East End Park last month but we’ve also beaten them a few times too. They are fighting for their lives and looking to stay in the league and John Hughes has them playing some nice stuff – but we have good players in our team too.
“As an attacking player, it’s all about scoring goals and creating chances and while we know what Firhill has been like this season, I’ve still been able to do that. I think in just about every game I’ve managed to create a chance or score a goal, but sometimes we haven’t been able to take the chances we make – that’s football. It’s just the way it goes sometimes.”
It’s been a week of award nominations for Scott as he was shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Championship Player of the Year on Wednesday.
“Obviously, it’s humbling to be voted for by the players I’ve played against all season. It means that other people think I’ve had a good season. I think that I’ve played quite well and I’m on a good run of form that hopefully we can get the result on Saturday to secure our play-off slot and I can keep my good form going on for the rest of the season.”
As well as being recognised by his peers, Scott is also up for nomination in the McCrea Financial Services Player and Young Player award.
“The fans have been great with me all season and the support I’ve gotten from them throughout the season has really helped me be consistent. When I looked at the shortlist – especially for the main award – you could have voted for any of the nominees. We’ve had a team of players who have had good seasons and it’s why we’ve been in the top half of the table practically all year. We need to finish it on a high to get that play-off slot and make sure we give ourselves that chance of going up, because who knows what will happen in the play-offs?
