After a victory in our last home game of the regular season, Partick Thistle go on the road one more time to Somerset Park for the final away outing of the regular season and if Thistle get the win it confirms a playoff place for the Jags. Ahead of the game on Friday, Thistle defender Stephen Hendrie sat down with ptfc.co.uk to give his insight on the last game of the season:
“We’re feeling good going into this one after a good win on Saturday. That was an important three points and it gives us some momentum going into Friday. We know our play-off place isn’t confirmed yet so we need to make sure we’re fully focused on getting a result to make sure of things.”
Stephen reflected on the result on Saturday against Dunfermline and evaluating the team’s overall performance against the Pars.
“I thought in parts of the game we were good and getting back to our best, we’re not quite there yet but hopefully on Friday the performance will be all there. For the first 20 minutes or so we created some good chances and could have been a couple ahead and that’s how we want to be playing more consistently.
“We want to play well on Friday, confirm top four and then take that momentum into the playoffs and get back to our very best both in defence and attack.”
Thistle went into the game against Dunfermline following a late defeat against Raith Rovers and Hendrie thinks the weekend’s win was vital to get the Jags moving in the right direction again.
“Obviously we went the four games without a win, then we got a draw and then went to Queens and we got the win so we were hoping to kick on from there but we then have that game against Raith.
“It was important for us to bounce back after that and the win against Dunfermline will put us in good stead for Friday so the team’s morale will be up, the boys will be buzzing for it.”
Heading to Somerset Park, the Maryhill men know that Ayr have just as much as them to play for and Stephen is expecting a tough contest.
“We go there looking for a win but it won’t be easy. For them, a win will keep them safe no matter what so we’ll be expecting them to come at us looking for that. They’ll fight and scrap for everything just like Dunfermline did so it’s up to us to match that.”
