Goals from Kyle Turner and Brian Graham ensure that Thistle start the 2022-2023 season with a win.
It was in the main a straightforward victory for The Jags who dominated almost entirely but there was an anxious moment when the home side levelled with just about their own chance of the game as Thistle switched off at the back.
Over the piece though they was more to be encouraged than to be worried about with this performance with sterner tests ahead.
Lyon forces a save from Brennan.
Brownlie gets his head to Forbes' corner. A shot does come in but is deflected away from goal with Sneddon across quickly to prevent another corner.
Turner smacks the Stenhousemuir crossbar with a crisp shot as Thistle look to seal the win.
Worrying moment for Cammy Smith as he goes to ground with Brian Graham immediately waving for the physio to come o. Smith is quickly back to his feet though after a spot of treatment.
Brian Graham grabs his first goal of the season to put Thistle back in front as connect with a McMillan cross, who has moved to left back since Brownlie came on, and steers his header wide of Brennan.
Brennan denies Smith after he collects Graham's pass.
Yates has a shot from the edge of the Thistle box but it rolls to Sneddon.
We're level again. Anderson has far far too much space but Thistle are rescued by an excellent save from Sneddon only for the ball to fall to Yates who this time, and despite the efforts of Sneddon, is able to squeeze the ball home.
Akinola makes a run to connect with Turner's corner but can't get his header on target.
Thistle have a free kick about 30 yards from goal in a central position. It might be a shade too far out for a shot though.
Graham fizzes a shot wide of goal after collecting a pass from Smith.
The deadlock is broken. Graham nods the ball on for Turner who knocks the ball past Brennan in the home side's goal.
Holt's shot from just outside the box goes the wrong side of Brennan's left hand post.
Thistle have had by far the majority of possession but they haven't, as yet, translated that into goals, or indeed too many chances and the game remains scoreless at the break.
The referee spots a push as Turner's corner comes over and Stenhousemuir have a free kick as we drift towards half-time.
A low shot from Docherty goes well wide of the Stenhousemuir goal.
This time Turner's corner is cleared at the edge of the six yard box.
Turner whips the corner over deep into the six yard box with nobody able to provide the touch required.
Graham is able to nudge himself in front of a defender in trying to collect a long ball forward from Bannigan. He forces a good stop from Brennan with the ball deflected wide as Smith tries to force home the loose ball.
That's the closest we've come yet to a Thistle goal. Turner is able to find Smith to his left and Smith's low shot goes wide of Brennan's left hand post.
Thistle are dominating in terms of possession but haven't created too much in front of the Stenhousemuir goal. The most recent attack sees a Turner cross drift away from Graham at the back post.
Graham tries to nod a Docherty cross into the path of Turner but strays fractionally offside.
A sharp turn from Turner at the edge of the box gives him space for a shot that he drags wide of target.
First effort on goal for Thistle as Lawless gets the ball onto his left foot at the edge of the box but can't get any real power behind his shot allowing Brennan to save with comfort.
Bright start for the home side forcing an early corner and a long throw from Corbett requiring to be well defended.
Stenhousemuir get the game underway. Thistle defending the goal in front of the terracing in the first half.
The competitive action in season 2022-2023 gets underway this afternoon and Thistle take the oft travelled in recent years trip to Ochilview to face Stenhousemuir in the opening Group B game of the Premier Sports Cup.
We have three players making their competitive debuts second time around this afternoon with Jack McMillan, Steven Lawless and Aaron Muirhead all featuring in Ian McCall's first starting eleven of the season.
There is a youthful look to the Thistle substitute bench but also a very welcome return for Darren Brownlie.
