Mullen drags a shot just wide as Thistle come close to a third goal with the game in injury time.
Into injury time.
Crowd: 3,701
Man of the Match; Kyle Turner
Referee Anderson isn't winning any fans with the Thistle fans as he penalises Dowds for a push.
Thistle have two players clear breaking towards the Arbroath goal but the referee stops play to book Linn for his foul on Fitzpatrick.
A late flag halts a promising move involving McKinnon and Fitzpatrick.
The corner does produce a threat to the Thistle goal and Mitchell has to be alert to push a O'Brien header over his crossbar.
This still has the potential to be nervy. Before this corner is taken the referee checks on an injury to Tiffoney.
After a bit of a delay Allan takes the corner but Lawless is there to head clear.
It's a great stop from Gaston to deny Brownlie from Lawless' corner.
McKenna hits a low corner to O'Brien at the edge of the box but he skies the ball over the bar.
It's nearly a hat-trick for Turner. Gaston saves but can't hold a Docherty shot and Turner is onto the loose ball but Gaston makes an excellent stop to keep the score at 2-0.
Ironic cheers as Thistle get a free kick for a foul on Turner.
It's two for Thistle and two for Kyle Turner. Tiffoney has space in the left hand side of the box and he squares to Turner who shoots low into the net.
Thistle look for a penalty for a tug on Tiffoney as he advances into the Arbroath box but referee Anderson isn't interested in those appeals.
Mitchell is forced to tip a long range effort over the bar and then punches clear the corner that follows.
Nearly a second for Thistle as the the ball falls to Graham after a Lawless shot is partially blocked but Gaston spreads himself well and blocks.
Mitchell makes amends for his earlier error when he plucks a cross from the sky and launches a quick Thistle counter attack. Bannigan surges forward but eventually is crowded out.
Mitchell slips and has to knock the ball behind for a corner.
We're back underway. No changes from either side.
Most people were expecting a tight game this afternoon and so it is proving with no much in the way of free flowing football on view.
Kyle Turner's deft header from a Steven Lawless cross 6 minutes before the interval though has given Thistle a narrow but vital lead.
A Graham pass over the top of the Arbroath defence catches Tiffoney in an offside position.
Into first half injury time.
Thistle make the breakthrough. Lawless crosses from the right and Turner's deft header takes the ball away from Gaston and into the far corner of the net.
Lawless takes this corner. It finds Brownlie but he is off balance and go do no better than lift a shot tamely over Gaston's crossbar.
Lawless finds Graham in a wide position. There's nobody in the box for Graham to find with a pass and that allows a defender to nip the ball away from him.
Although Mitchell is able to take charge at the second of Ben El-Mhanni's corners Thistle don't look confident in defending these set pieces.
Thistle are starting to look a threat although on this occasion the flag goes up for offside against McMillan.
Turner's corner goes deep to Holt but his knock on drops behind Graham.
Thistle have to make do with a corner as neither Turner or Graham can squeeze home a Tiffoney cut back.
Docherty breaks up an attempted Arbroath counter attack and suddenly there is space in front of Thistle as they advance. Turner gets the ball inside the box but Gaston is off his line quickly to block Turner's shot.
The Arbroath defensive line looks really solid when they don't have the ball making it hard for Thistle and inducing a misplaced pass from Muirhead as the home side continue to struggle to make an impact on this game.
Thistle are nearly punished from the game's first corner. O'Brien escapes his marker to connect with Ben El-Mhanni's corner and Mitchell has to make a stop low to his left.
Tiffoney has the ball in the net but the flag had long since gone up for offside against the Thistle number seven.
It;s been a edgy opening from Thistle but there have been a few more encouraging signs in the last couple of minutes with Tiffoney just failing to get on the end of a Docherty cross and Lawless and McMillan linking up well down the right hand side.
McMillan heads the free kick clear. Arbroath pick up the ball again and try to find a route towards the Thistle goal but the flag goes up for offside.
McKenna is fouled and Arbroath will have a chance to test the Thistle defence with the free kick.
Another anxious moment as Hilson finds Hetherington but his low cross is cleared.
An anxious moment for Thistle as Hilson gets to the ball ahead of Mitchell. Thankfully the ball goes wide of goal but the two players collide . Mitchell looks to come off worse but can continue without treatment.
First flurry of action near the Arbroath goal but Graham can't find Tiffoney with a knock down inside the box.
It's a little after 3pm but we are finally underway. Arbroath kick-off and Thistle will be shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the first half.
We've reached the penultimate fixture of the regular season with issues still to be settled at both ends of the league table.
For Thistle, with the league title now gone, the priority is on securing a play-off position with a second place finish still possible. Two wins would definitely secure the former and could see Thistle squeeze into the latter.
Arbroath meantime are focusing on preserving their Championship status and three points this afternoon would see them do that with their gal difference such that a point would all but do so. Defeat and they would face a nervy final day.
There is a lot at stake at Firhill this afternoon then.
Kris Doolan's team selection shows just one change from the side that started at Hamilton last Saturday with Scott Tiffoney replacing Aidan Fitzpatrick who drops to the bench where there is a place for Lee Hodson after a spell out injured.
