It's a narrow win for Motherwell in this friendly match. 

MacKenzie plays in a good cross from the left that Weston on the stretch isn't quite able to get on the end of. 

Tierney's flick from a Spittal cross goes over the bar. 

Quick feet from Weston sets up a shooting chance for Stanway. His effort is blocked but spins to MacKenzie who sends a shot over the bar. 

Akinola is able to get his head to Fitzpatrick's back post corner but it is an easy save for the Trialist keeper. 

Nearly a second for Motherwell as Shields sends over a cross from the right that Tierney is able to divert past Mitchell. 

Really out of nothing Motherwell take the lead. A clearance spins into the path of Efford who is left with just Mitchell to beat and he slams the ball home. 

Slattery sends a pass to Spittal to his left and his first time shot is saved by Mitchell. 

Carroll isn't too far away with a header following a free kick on the left, the ball clearing Mitchell's crossbar by a foot or so. 

First chance of the second half comes the way of Motherwell but Shields drags his effort from the right hand side of the box wide of goal. 

Goalless at the break. 

Fitzpatrick is able to get himself into space for a shot a yard or so outside the Motherwell box but can only drag his effort wide of target. 

Thistle are lucky not to fall behind as the ball comes off the base of the post from close range after Sneddon doesn't claim a free kick from wide on the Motherwell right hand side. 

Kelly makes an easy catch from Fitzpatrick's corner. 

Efford gets round the side of Akinola and it takes a good clearance from Milne to get the ball clear when Efford crosses low into the Thistle 6 yard box. 

Brownlie's clearance is charged down by Shields and spins towards gal. It looks like an easy clearance for Milne to make and it is in the end but only after it looks as if he might knock the ball into his own net. 

An early change for Thistle as Bannigan, who received a knock to his knee a little earlier in the game, is replaced by James Lyon. 

Efford is able to find Morris to his left and Morris' shot smashes into the side netting and not the back of the net as some Motherwell fans initially thought. 

A Spittal snap shot is well wide of Sneddon's goal. 

A low Efford cross from the Motherwell left is begging for a touch that doesn't come. 

Fitzpatrick's corner drifts away from everyone as the lowkey nature to this fixture continues. 

Slattery sends in a shot from just outside the Thistle box that clears Sneddon's crossbar. Neither keeper has seen much action so far. 

It's Fitzpatrick with the corner which is aimed deep for Brownlie whose header drops wide of Kelly's left hand post.  

Fitzpatrick takes the free kick but it is far too close to Kelly who makes a comfortable catch. 

Lawless is fouled wide on the left and Thistle have a chance to get a free kick into the Motherwell box. 

After a minutes' applause for Adam Strachan, Motherwell get this friendly match underway. Thistle will be shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the first 45 minutes. 

As anticipated manager Ian McCall has used this afternoon's friendly with Motherwell as an opportunity to give game time to those that haven't featured as prominently as others in the two competitive fixtures completed so far. 

Darren Brownlie, Cole McKinnon, Tony Weston, Tunji Akinola, Aidan Fitzpatrick and Ben Stanway, all substitutes at Kilmarnock midweek, start this afternoon. 

Meantime half an eye will be kept open on the two Premier Sports Cup sectional ties, Montrose v Kilmarnock and Stenhousemuir v Fraserburgh, being played in our group this afternoon.
