PTWFC October Player of the Month

There were three games played by Partick Thistle Women’s FC in October with a cup quarter-final and two hugely important league games to be contested.

The Jags came up just short in the last 8 of the SWPL Cup losing 2-0 to Celtic but then bounced back with a 1-0 win over Dundee United in SWPL1 action. October ended with a trip to the capital to face Hibs where Brian Graham’s side had to battle hard to earn a 0-0 draw against the Hibees.

All in all, the four points earned over the course of the month see Thistle sitting in 5th position as we head into November.

Now it’s time to decide you feel deserves the PTWFC Player of the Month award for October from the following four candidates:

Megan Cunningham
Thistle currently boast the best defensive record outside the top four in SWPL1 and October has been a prime example as to why. It all begins at the very back with goalkeeper Megan Cunningham who started all three games last month keeping clean sheets in both league games. Her vocal presence and shot-stopping ability have been a platform for the team as they’ve started getting more points on the board.

Demi Falconer
As ever, the defending in October has been a real team effort and the leadership demonstrated by Demi Falconer in central defence has proved key to the squad’s success. Her work was especially needed at Meadowbank as Hibs piled the pressure on in the second half but with Falconer leading the backline, the team were able to get over the line and claim a point.

Cheryl McCulloch
McCulloch was alongside Falconer for every minute of October, also contributing to the side’s impressive defensive record over the course of the month. Like her central defensive partner, she had to get through an incredible amount of work in the second half in Edinburgh to help the team to a draw and, on top of that, it was McCulloch who kept the ball alive from the corner which lead to Cara Henderson’s winner against Dundee United at Petershill Park.

Kim Murphy
Another key component of the Jags’ resolute defence, Kim Murphy started the first two games of October; against Celtic in the SWPL Cup and Dundee United in the league. In both games she displayed her typical mix of determination and quality in possession as she helped limit free-scoring Celtic to two goals and keep Dundee United at bay.
