Just under three weeks on from scooping the club’s Player of the Year award, Jack McMillan has another trophy to go on the mantelpiece having been voted the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for May.
Following an excellent month for the team it was a competitive field of nominees but Jack earned just over 50% of the vote in both of our polls to earn his first monthly award as a Jag.
The right-back has done just about everything for the team this season and that has never been more evident than in the past handful of games.
McMillan has popped up with three goals during the play-offs so far firing in the second goal against Queen’s Park at Firhill before bagging crucial openers in both legs of the semi-finals against Ayr United.
His recent penchant for goalscoring hasn’t interrupted his assisting rhythm though with Jack setting up a goal for Scott Tiffoney in each of our away play-off games.
He hasn’t forgotten about his defensive duties either, playing a key role as part of a backline which has kept three clean sheets in its last four games against the two of the four most prolific frontlines of the Championship season.
Upon receiving the award, Jack said:
“I’ve been really happy with the way I’ve been playing recently and it feels good that the fans have seen that. That being said, we had a really good month as a team and there were plenty of guys in that dressing room who would have been worthy of winning this award.
“I think that’s key for us at the moment – it’s not about any individuals; it’s about creating opportunities for the team. Everyone has been chipping in and I’m glad to have been able to do my bit at such an important time of the season.
“We have built up some great momentum and got ourselves into that play-off final but we can’t let standards drop now. Playing against a Premiership side will be the ultimate challenge for us so we need to make sure we keep up all the great things we’ve been doing recently. If we can do that, then anything’s possible for us.”
