A James Lyon goal in injury time rescues a point for Thistle that could be vital come the end of the group in terms of qualification. It's Falkirk though that claim the bonus point after another epic penalty shoot out.

It's another penalty shoot out. 

Falkirk don't clear the free kick and when it falls to Lyon at the edge of the box his dipping shot finds the back of the net. 

MacKenzie is fouled wide on the touchline and Thistle will have a chance, last chance, to get the ball in the box. 

The 90 minutes are over. Into additional time with Falkirk having a free kick just outside the Thistle box. 

Slack play in defence gives Lawal a chance but his shot is poor and Sneddon saves. 

A Dowds header from a Lyon cross goes wide. 

We're into the last five minutes. There should be a good few minutes of additional time but there's been no hint of a second Thistle equaliser against the ten men of Falkirk.

Milne has the ball at the edge of the Falkirk box but his cross too is poor. This is slipping away from Thistle. 

Fitzpatrick has time to deliver a telling cross into the box but instead finds Long at his front post. 

Lyon does well to find Fitzpatrick to his left. Fitzpatrick fizzes over a cross that Graham knocks wide. 

Muirhead takes the free kick. He gets it over the wall but with far too much elevation and it clears the Falkirk crossbar with a bit to spare. 

Dowds is fouled just shy of 30 yards from goal. Muirhead over the ball. 

Dowds does well to bring the ball down inside the Falkirk box. He touches the ball back to Williamson who blazes high over the bar. 

Fitzpatrick crosses from the left but Lawless can't get head over the ball and the result is that his header goes wide. 

Falkirk are back in front as Agyeman blasts a shot high past Sneddon. Sneddon can get a hand to the shot but can't prevent it from finding the net. 

That's how you take a free kick! From the free kick that follows Spencer's red card, the new Thistle captain absolutely thumps the ball into the back of the net. 

Williamson is shoved in the back as he advances towards goal after collecting a poor pass from Long. It's a straight red for the player not long since booked. A fairly obvious call for the referee to make. 

Falkirk, if a little less than convincingly, clear the last of a series of Thistle corners.

Muirhead to looks to be in some pain after extending a leg to clear a MacIver cross. He's thankfully back on his feet fairly quickly. 

There is an angry exchange between Williams and Spencer but the referee contents himself with just a warning to each player. 

Lawless' corner goes all the way to the back post where it finds Graham. Graham is off balance though as he hits the ball and it doesn't threaten the Falkirk goal. We've had some pressure from Thistle, but you don't get the sense that an equaliser is coming. 

Long can't make a clean catch to a Williamson cross and as the ball drops loose looks to accidentally catch Graham who can't react to the potential chance in front of him. 

Long gets a strong enough hand to Fitzpatrick's corner to get the ball to safety. 

Thistle get things back underway. 

It's been poor from Thistle first half as they have struggled defensively and only in the latter stages of the half did they offer much as an attacking force. 

Much better needed after the break. 

There's a chance at the back post for Williams, but his header from a Lawless cross drops wide of goal. 

Williamson is able to flick Lawless' free kick towards goal but Long collects with ease. 

MacKenzie has his heels clipped and Thistle have a free kick in a threatening position. 

Thistle are close to an equaliser. Long's poor clearance is collected by Lawless but Long redeems himself with a good save before the loose ball cleared before a Thistle foot can apply a finish. 

Much, much better from Thistle as some Fitzoatrick magic gets him deep in the box but his cross is cleared. 

Thistle are under pressure again as it is all a little too easy for Falkirk. On this occasion Spencer is robbed of a chance by a well times Muirhead challenge inside the box. 

Agyeman's pace is causing Thistle problems down both flanks. This time it is Milne that struggles but Williams is there to clear Agyeman's cut back. 

Graham looks for a penalty but referee Kirkland is unmoved by his appeals. 

This time it is Spencer that has acres of space in front of him. His low shot does force Sneddon into a save but it is a comfortable one for the Jags keeper. 

Agyeman has too much space in front of him and gets a clear sight of the Thistle goal but his shot is wild and doesn't trouble Sneddon. 

MacKenzie powers on to get to a Lawless flick but his cross slams straight at Long. 

Thistle initially struggle to clear the corner but do eventually get the ball clear but Fitzpatrick's attempt to counter are quickly halted. 

Nearly a second for Falkirk as Sneddon makes a good stop from Spencer, pushing the ball over the bar for a corner. 

Milne's header from Lawless' corner goes harmlessly over the bar. 

Better from Thistle and Stanway's shot, after a pass from MacKenzie, is deflected wide for Thistle's first corner. 

It's a not entirely unexpected opener for Falkirk. Sneddon makes a good initial save but can't push the ball away from goal and MacIver is there to knock the ball home. 

There is an anxious moment for Thistle at the corner as Agyeman looks set to force the ball home before the referee signals a push. 

Falkirk ask for a penalty as Oliver tries to get on the end of a MacIver pass but have to settle for a corner. 

We have a break in play while Falkirk's Mackie receives a spot of treatment. 

Thistle try and counter attack after the game's first corner is cleared. 

Early half chance for Falkirk as the ball breaks into the path of Mackie but he slices his first time effort wide of goal.

The first home game of a new season is always a little special and Thistle go into this afternoon's Viaplay Cup match with Falkirk on a back of an excellent midweek win at Dundee United, and will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of Group B and take a step closer to qualifying for the knock out stages. 

It's unlikely to be easy however as Falkirk come to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill with full points from their one game played and will go above The Jags with a win. 

The only change to the Thistle starting eleven comes in goal as Kris Doolan continues to alternate his two keepers with Jamie Sneddon getting the nod. this afternoon 

The only other change is on the bench where there is a place for Academy graduate Sallu Turay in a competitive fixture for the very first time.
