Aberdeen have had a good start to their season, sitting in 7th position with a point tally of 15, 3 behind the Jags.
Following the arrival of a new manager in the form of Clinton Lancaster, the Dons have been playing some good football this season picking up wins over Montrose and Spartans as well as pushing last season’s champions Glasgow City to their limit narrowly losing. A recent 5-2 victory over Motherwell, featuring 4 from Bailey Hutchison, was a statement from Aberdeen and they’ll look to carry that into this match.
Last season saw some great matches between the two sides, notably the 4-3 victory for PTFC against Aberdeen at Petershill Park which was vital towards our top 6 finish. This match has been rearranged from earlier in the season due to weather therefore both teams will look to go on the attack heading into this fixture.
A 2-1 victory over Montrose on Sunday saw the girls make history as they progressed into the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup for the first time in the club’s history. After going down to a strike from Louise Brown at the half hour mark, a quickfire double from Rachel Donaldson and Imogen Longcake helped secure their place in the semi finals.
Brian Graham spoke post match about how pleased he was to make a second semi final in three years but the performance on Sunday wasn’t good enough and that they will need to step things up for future games. A midweek trip with a likely depleted squad awaits the girls on Thursday evening.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have really helped our girls this season. A trip up north beckons and your help as the 12th player could be a real help, with free entry to help. We’d love to see as many of the Thistle fans as we could on Thursday night.
Unfortunately as the result of being a part time outfit, the Jags will have players missing on Thursday due to work commitments. Brian Graham spoke about this hoping that he managed to convince some employers to give them the day off but isn’t as confident as he would like.
In terms of injuries, we have a clean bill of health, bar Cheryl McCulloch who remains out with an ACL injury which she is continuing to recover from.
It will be up to our management squad to make the most of the situation and field out strongest team possible on Thursday night.
