Everyone at Partick Thistle was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Eddie McMurray, a lifelong Thistle fan and former managing director of DH Morris, then long-term sponsors of the club.
Born in Lambhill, growing up in Milton and an electrician by trade, Eddie made a significant contribution to Thistle as a sponsor, the DH Morris logo appearing on the front of Jags strips for a record-breaking eight seasons.
We pass on our deepest condolences to Eddie’s family and close friends, including his son Martyn – also a Thistle fan – who contacted the club to share the sad news and upcoming funeral details.
Martyn said: “Eddie, my dad, had inherited his love of the Jags from his own father before him and had grown up attending Firhill. In his younger days he even used to sell the Jags Mag around Firhill and had turned 14 the day before the League Cup Final in ’71.
“My dad used to follow Thistle home and away and when I arrived took me to as many games as possible.
“A lot of people will remember my dad as Managing Director of DH Morris and when the opportunity arose in 1999 he jumped at the chance to be main sponsor of the team, an affiliation that would last until 2008.
“My dad was always eager to help the club out in any way he could, and we have some incredible memories from that time period that will stay with me for life.”
Martyn and family warmly invite anyone who knew Eddie to the funeral service at Glasgow (Lambhill) Crematorium, 19 Tresta Rd, Glasgow (G23 5AA) at 1.30pm on Thursday 30th November, with refreshments afterwards at the Garfield House Hotel in Stepps.
Rest in peace Eddie – once a Jag, always a Jag.
