An unbeaten January for Kris Doolan’s Jags provided a handful of worthy candidates for the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award but the Red and Yellow Army have decided Aidan Fitzpatrick deserves his second such prize of the season after another impressive string of performances from the wideman.
Beating Tomi Adeloye, Aaron Muirhead and Scott Robinson in the vote, Fitzpatrick registered four goal involvements over the course of the month starting with our first game of the new year, against Queen’s Park.
Aidan’s corner set up the opener against the Spiders before he then took things into his own hands by scoring the second goal just after half-time.
That was followed by a further goal in the very next game, against Arbroath, as the 22-year-old burst past his defender and squeezed a shot home from a tight angle.
His next goal involvement came at Dingwall as he once again turned provider for an important opener, this time setting up Brian Graham to kick start what would turn into a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon in the Highlands for the Maryhill Men.
After receiving the award Aidan said:
“I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and it’s good to know the fans are enjoying it as well. The focus for me has been to become more consistent this season and I feel like I’m achieving that.
“Last month I was able to get a couple of goals and a couple of assists and most importantly they were contributing to results for the team. We’re unbeaten so far this year and it’s given us a great platform to build on in February.”
This season McCrea Financial Services is making a donation each month to a charity of the player of the month winner’s choice. Aidan Fitzpatrick’s pick this month is Kelbourne Park Primary School:
“I chose Kelbourne for my donation when I won the award for November and I’m pleased to do the same this time around. It’s a school for children with additional support needs where my mum works and hopefully the donation helps them continue to do great work in providing for their pupils.”
