Partick Thistle WFC are excited to announce the signing of the highly versatile Courtney Stewart. The English midfielder had originally trialied with the club last summer but medical issues meant she was unable to complete the move at that time.
Courtney follows a similar route to Petershill Park as that taken by Imogen Longcake hailing from the North East of England.
Courtney, 23, began her football journey while aged just 4 with local side Bedlington Juniors. While starring for Bedlington she was spotted by Sunderland and joined their Academy set up before making the step up to Sunderland Ladies Reserves while also having the opportunity to train and feature in Sunderland’s WSL side.
After three years with Sunderland, Geordie Courtney made the move to her hometown team Newcastle United where she spent two years, where she was a team mate of the aforementioned Imogen Longcake before a further move, along with Imogen to Middlesbrough.
If Courtney proves to be anything like as successful in Glasgow as Imogen has been then she is sure to delight the ever increasing Thistle support at Petershill Park next season.
Speaking after the move Courtney said:”I’m really happy to be a Partick Thistle player. I played with Imogen before and she speaks so highly of the club and the staff.
“I’d hoped to sign last summer so it’s taken a while to get here but i’m delighted to finally sign and I can’t wait to get going for pre-season now”
Manager Brian Graham said: “Courtney was up last summer and really impressed us in the short time she was able to train with us.
“She was unable to sign then but she’s kept in touch with us throughout the season and travelled up to watch our last few games of the season.
“She’s a player of real talent and experience so i’m delighted to be able to add her to the squad for next season”
