PTFC Matchday Programme
There will not be an issue of the PTFC Matchday Programme produced for either of our home Premier Sports Cup group stage fixtures.
The programme will return for the first game of the league season, against Greenock Morton.
It's a winning start to season 2024-25.
As these very early games often are, it was a strange game.
Thistle in truth should have won with several goals to spare but have to settle for a 3-2 win.
There were passages of good play but also, understandable for this time of the season, some rustiness out there.
Robinson looks for a penalty but only gets a yellow card.
Into added time.
Man of the Match: Kyle Turner
A Turner shot from outside the box isn't too far over the bar.
Fitzpatrick fizzes over a cross that is missed by both Mackay and Graham.
Crowd: 1,923
A Fitzpatrick shot just clears the crossbar. Thistle looking for the comfort of a two goal advantage.
Not quite sure what happened there. Turner's corner was cleared at the front post but the ball goes back towards goal, goes into the far corner and Graham celebrates. Thistle back in front.
Graham's header from a Muirhead cross comes back off the crossbar.
Turner's corner is cleared.
It's a poor free kick from Turner who gets far too much on the ball and it goes out for a goal kick.
Milne is fouled and Thistle have a free kick wide on the left.
Turner goes for goal with the free kick but it goes high over the bar.
Graham is fouled and Thistle have a free kick outside the box, left of centre.
Fitzpatrick shoots for goal but his effort is too straight to trouble Matthews.
We're level again. Gardyne has too much time and space and finds Hermiston to his left and he clips the ball wide of Mitchell.
A Graham header from a Muirhead cross goes over the bar.
Stanway crosses low across the face of the Montrose goal. Just behind Graham and just too far in front of Chalmers.
A low shot from Chalmers goes wide of goal.
Matthews can't hold a Fitzpatrick shot and Graham is unable to force the loose ball home.
Graham finds space for a shot at the edge of the box but he can't hit target and Montrose have a goal kick.
A goal to mark his return. Graham gets the better of Smith and crosses from the right. Turner doesn't manage to apply a finish at the first time of asking but does at the second. Thistle, finally, have a lead.
We're back underway. No changes from Thistle at the break.
All-square at the end of a first half that should have seen Thistle lead by two or three.
Montrose took the lead with their first attack but it was a short lived lead with Aaron Muirhead netting a timely equaliser just ahead of the half-time whistle.
O'Reilly meets Turner's corner with his head and Muirhead is there inside the 6 yard box to find the net.
Graham does well to get his head to a Chalmers cross but Matthews saves.
Gardyne's free kick sneaks just the wrong side of the post.
A Montrose counter attack is halted by a Milne foul on Martin.
We do have a goal but it is a goal for Montrose. The ball is crossed from the left and Maciver-Redwood finds the net despite the best efforts of Muirhead to clear.
Turner's free kick is cleared. Thistle still searching for that opening goal that their performance merits.
Smith fouls Chalmers and Thistle have a free kick just outside the box on the right.
Milne comes close. He pushes forward and from the edge of the box sends a low shot wide of goal with Matthews motionless.
Chalmers shoots from the edge of the box but Matthews gets down to save. It's more and more of a surprise that this is still level at 0-0.
Fitzpatrick pulls the ball onto his left foot inside the box but sees his shot blocked.
Graham chests the ball back to Fitzpatrick who spins and shoots. The ball flies straight into the arms of Matthews though.
Another chance for Thistle. Chalmers finds McBeth. He cuts the ball back to Turner who this time lifts the ball well over the Montrose crossbar.
They are a fraction away from taking the lead there though. Turner shoots from outside the box. His shot beats Matthews but comes off the crossbar.
Thistle have been in complete control in the first 15 minutes without creating a clear cut chances.
Turner again with the corner. This one is whipped in with the pace where it is well defended.
A Wasiri cross the right is just a shade too close to Matthews who collects ahead of Graham who shows his appreciation for the quality of the cross.
Turner takes the corner. He aims in towards the back post. There's three Thistle players there. It looks like O'Reilly who gets the header but it is a comfortable save for Matthews.
Positive start from Thistle with both Chalmers and Milne pushing forward with purpose but no openings yet.
Kyle Turner kicks the game off for Thistle who are shooting towards the John Lambie Stand in the opening 45 minutes.
The start of the 2024-2025 season is now less than 10 minutes away.
To kick-off the season we welcome Montrose to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill for a Premier Sports Cup match.
Manager Kris Doolan's starting eleven includes just two of his summer signings, Kyle Turner and Logan Chalmers. Daniel Mackay and Lee Ashcroft start their Partick Thistle careers on the substitute bench.
