💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Aberdeen have struggled this season thus far having finished 7th in the league last season, picking up one win so far this season and sitting in 9th place, one below the jags.
Aberdeen have lost several key players this season as the likes of League top scorer Bailey Hutchison and midfield maestro Eilidh Shore made the move to full time football with Hearts while keeper Jeni Currie opted to switch to the Jags this summer having had a stint in Aberdeen for the second half of last season. Manager Clinton Lancaster also left the club for personal reasons while his replacement Colin Bell only lasted 2 games with the club.
The dons have brought replacements into the club with Niamh Noble making the switch from Glasgow City, and made last week’s team of the week, while a number of players made the move from Dundee United including Megan Sidey, Natasha Bruce and Nicola Jamieson.
With both teams having struggled to pick up points this season due to tough starts, it is sure to be a great match in store as we face our closest rivals from last season’s top 6 race.
Thistle’s new makeshift home in Kirkintilloch was the venue for a Glasgow derby against our usual ground share visitors in Glasgow City. A sloppy start from Thistle saw a counter attack from the former league champions with Wilma Forsblom continuing to impress for City and grabbing a heavily deflected strike to give the visitors the lead.
A back and forth game ensued for a while before another counter attack saw City take
advantage once more and allowed summer signing Natalia Wordle grab her first for City since making the switch from Danish side Brondby.
The second half was a completely different story with Thistle being the much better side and the likes of Tiree Buchill and Georgia Gray impressing while Caley Gibb came off the bench to really trouble the defence. A very controversial decision not to give a penalty and subsequent red card against Glasgow City has been the talking point for many Scottish women’s football fans this week as Tiree Burchill got the better of Megan Foley who pulled the winger to the ground. Brian Graham received a booking for his reaction to this and was very careful not to say anything that may further incriminate himself following the match. The scoreline finished 2-0 but a performance to be proud of nonetheless.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively last season. We set our home support record last year at Firhill with our match against Hamilton Accies and another opportunity to showcase just why you should #BePartofThis happens this Sunday.
Absolutely Everybody is welcome and we look forward to seeing as many of you fill Firhill as possible.
Claire Adams remains suspended for this match following her red card against Spartans last week. Alongside this, Courtney Stewart, Kodie Hay and Cheryl McCulloch continue to remain out with their respective injuries.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Aberdeen.
