Partick Thistle FC is delighted to learn that it has been named the best run Scottish Championship club according to the Fair Game Index 2024.
The Fair Game Index, originally collated in January 2023, was the first attempt to systematically answer the question of what a well-run club looks like and how football can identify and reward these clubs. Now in its third iteration, the Index has significantly expanded in terms of the number of clubs assessed and the amount of data analysed – with clubs from all four divisions in Scotland included this year for the first time.
This year, the number of touchpoints clubs are rated on has also increased, from 80 to 226. These are spread across four broad areas: financial sustainability; good governance; equality and ethical standards; and fan and community engagement – all measures expected to be part of the remit of the new independent football regulator.
The results of the Fair Game Index 2024, announced today, reveal Partick Thistle as the best run club in the Scottish Championship, rated best in the league in both the financial sustainability and good governance categories. Thistle were also equal best (with Morton) for fan and community engagement as well as equality and ethical standards.
Accepting the award on behalf of the club, Thistle general manager Levi Gill said: “Everyone at the club is delighted to learn that Thistle have been rated the most sustainable club in the Championship by the Fair Game Index 2024. It’s pleasing to see us score so well across key categories such as financial sustainability and fan and community engagement are the very foundations of a successful club rooted in its community and here for future generations to enjoy.
“The credit for this award must be shared by everyone at the club, especially the board who have worked tirelessly on these objectives over the past year, as well as the supporters who are contributing like never before, including through their membership of The Jags Foundation which brings considerable revenue to the club.
“Thanks to Niall and everyone at Fair Game for this award which reflects the traditions and the potential of Scottish football which we as a club are proud to represent. This timely recognition further energises us for the next steps in our fan ownership journey.”
