Partick Thistle WFC can confirm that defender Emma Lawton has signed for SWPL champions Celtic.
Lawton started her senior career at Thistle at the age of 15 before moving down south to Manchester City. She arrived back at Petershill Park at the start of the 2023/24 season via a season with Motherwell
The right back, who was included in last season’s PFA Scotland SWPL Team of the Year also cleaned up at the PTWFC End of Season awards winning Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year. She also earned herself a call up to the Scotland Under-23 side.
Het latest spell in Red and Yellow finished with 42 appearances and 6 goals. Aptly her last touch in a Thistle shirt was her goal in last Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Motherwell.
In moving to full-time football, she follows in the footsteps of Abbie Ferguson, Ava Easdon and Linzi Taylor who have all moved on to full-time clubs after development at Partick Thistle.
Manager Brian Graham said: “Emma will be a big loss but as a club we won’t stand in her way of full-time football and achieving her dreams.
“She is a model professional and a role model already to so many girls and I’m sure she’ll continue to progress in the game and go on to even bigger and better things. I’m sure it won’t be long before we see her in a Scotland shirt”
Before departing Emma Lawton said: “I can’t thank Thistle enough for everything they have done for me. From my first spell to now they have been amazing to me, and I’ve loved every minute in Red and Yellow.
“Brian and Ross and the other coaches have been amazing for my development and I wouldn’t be where I am without their help and guidance. I’m sure the club will continue to go from strength to strength”
