Partick Thistle FC is delighted to announce the signing of Kanayo Megwa on a season-long loan deal from Hibernian, subject to Scottish FA approval.
The right-back has been with the Hibees since 2021, winning the CAS U18s Elite League and featuring in the UEFA Youth League during his ascent through the youth ranks in the capital.
He made his first steps into first team football during the 2022/23 season as he spent a short spell on loan with Kelty Hearts in League 1, playing nine times for the Fife side.
A senior debut for Hibs came in August 2023 before he departed on loan for a second time, joining Airdrieonians in the Championship where he would feature 30 times as the Diamonds finished in the Premiership play-off spots.
The London-born defender made three appearances for Hibs this season during their Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign and signed a new four-year contract with David Gray’s side last month.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“Kanayo is a player who we’ve been trying to sign for most of the summer so to get this deal done is really satisfying. I think any of our fans who watched our games against Airdrieonians last season will recognise why we’ve been so keen to bring him in.
“He’s an exceptional one-on-one defender, he reads the game brilliantly and I think as last season went on he became more and more threatening as an attacking prospect.
“Making the sort of impact he did in your first full season as a senior player is incredibly impressive and now we’re looking forward to seeing how he uses the experience he earned at Airdrieonians to push on and be a great player for us here this year.”
