Beatson Cancer Charity has been the lucky recipient of more than £16,000 from Partick Thistle Football Club and incredibly generous jags fans last season. To celebrate the amazing total, some of the Firhill stars gathered with their much-loved mascot Kingsley and Beatson Cancer Charity’s very own Bella Beatson. The side is continuing their successful partnership with the Beatson this season with bucket collections and events planned. Match day tickets have also been offered to cancer patients and their families.
Ian Maxwell, Managing Director at Partick Thistle said: “Last season was the first year we had partnered with Beatson Cancer Charity so to have raised £16,000 is absolutely brilliant. It really is inspiring when you see a whole footballing community come together to achieve something really impressive. Credit should go to all of the volunteers who helped out on matchdays as without them none of this would be possible.
“We’re about to enter the second season of our partnership with Beatson and now we have our target to beat I look forward to hopefully going one better by raising even more over the next 12 months. Cancer is something that has impacted on everyone’s life in one way or another. It’s a terrible disease and if, through this partnership, we can play our own small role in helping to beat it then that really is the very least we can do as a club.”
Morag Cunningham, Head of Fundraising at Beatson Cancer Charity: “We count ourselves incredibly lucky to have the support of Partick Thistle Football Club and their fans. By pulling together as a footballing community, they have raised a phenomenal amount of money and shown a real determination to beat cancer. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at the club including the players and Kingsley. Their support will have a direct impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families in our community and for that we are incredibly grateful.”
