Glasgow City come into this fixture full of confidence as they sit top of the table with 28 points from 11 games.
With a recent 13-0 win away to Dundee United before the international break, Leanne Ross’ side are the heavy favourites for this matchup with Glasgow being the home side.
They had several players involved with their countries during the break with Wilma Forsblom and Sofia Maata representing Finland, both at under 23 and senior level respectively, while Lisa Evans starred in Scotland’s playoff wins against Hungary.
In terms of club links, former Thistle keeper Ava Easdon has stepped up as Glasgow City’s number two this season following her loan spell with the Jags last season. She has been called upon a few times and hasn’t looked out of place.
Thistle welcomed Queen’s Park to Petershill for a home fixture. This game meant that we would have now played every team in the league at least once at this point of the season. Brian Graham named a rotated lineup for this game which saw Georgia Gray, Rebecca McAllister, Jenna Ferguson and Shona Cowan step up into the lineup.
Thistle dominated from the start but just weren’t able to find the finishing touches. Chances came for Cara Henderson and Carla Boyce but saw good saves by Lucy Inman in net for Queens Park. Queen’s Park tried to make chances of their own through Chloe Muir down the left flank while Nicole Cairney seemed equally as dangerous on the right but they were unable to find the net either. This saw the half end at 0-0.
The second half was much better as Thistle continued to apply pressure to Queens Park. Georgia Gray was a standout in the middle of the park as she dominated and tried her best to create chances. It would ultimately be Brian Graham’s bench who would secure our goals with super subs of Imogen Longcake and Caley Gibb coming to the rescue. Both subs linked up with Tiree Burchill with a great bit of play for Gibb to open the scoring 75 seconds after being subbed on. Imogen Longcake would find herself in space not long after following a great ball by Rosie Slater, also off the bench, as Longcake would square it across goal for Tiree Burchill to tap it in leaving it 2-0 and a comfortable win for the Jags.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army helped our girls massively this season, and with a derby against Glasgow City for this “away fixture” we would love for the Thistle fans to bring the noise and support the girls.
Kodie Hay, Courtney Stewart and Rachel Donaldson remain out with their respective injuries for this fixture. We signed goalkeeper Abbie Ferns on a permanent basis following a trial period and she come straight into the squad to compete with number one Jeni Currie.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Glasgow City..
