🆚 Our Opponents: Motherwell

Motherwell come into this fixture with high confidence. Don’t let recent form be anything to gloss over as despite a heavy defeat against Rangers in the cup 8-1, they produced a 6-0 hammering away to Aberdeen and got a 4-1 win against Dundee United in recent weeks while also having a strong showing against Celtic and keeping Rangers to only 2-0 as well.

Motherwell have a number of threats with the biggest being Laura Berry with the loanee Rangers striker having put up some excellent performances lately and having 15 goal contributions to her name this season. Louisa Boyes scored a hat trick in that away day to Aberdeen while Lucy Ronald made her first start for the Steelmen against Rangers last weekend following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A 4-0 thrashing at Fir Park earlier in the season in favour of the Jags will see the amber side of Lanarkshire seeking revenge. Goals from Tiree Burchill, Hannah Robinson, Cara Henderson and Emma Lawton, with her final touch in a Jags shirt, were on the cards that day and we’re bound for an exciting tie this weekend with only a point separating both sides as they chase that final top six spot.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle’s cup tie against Hibs was always going to be difficult. Welcoming a strong team to Petershill who were chasing revenge having lost in the semi finals at the same venue a year prior, Hibs started strong from the get go.

Set pieces were the tactic from Grant Scott’s outfit and they paid dividends with Poppy Lawson, wearing the captain’s armband that afternoon, striking a volley past Jeni Currie to make it 1-0 Hibs. It would be a corner kick of our own that would tie the scoring with Cheryl McCulloch getting her head on the end of a great delivery by Amy Bulloch to secure her first goal in over 2 years. The half would end 1-1 with things tense and nervy.

The second half saw Hibs attack Thistle and look to punish the defence. Trying to use the pace of Michaela McAlonie down the right hand side, Rosie Slater done well to keep the winger at bay even earning a spot in the Team of the Week. It would be Kathleen McGovern to fire a blow to the Jags however as she struck 3 in the space of 10 minutes to make things 4-1 and knock

Thistle out of the cup. Allowing us to switch the mindset back to league action, we now look to use the positives as we face Motherwell.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army help our girls massively. We had a good turnout last weekend against Hibs and look to bring a noisy Peasy crowd against Motherwell next.

🗞 Team News

Rachel Donaldson made her return to the bench last weekend as she continues to recover while Kodie Hay continues to up her recovery. Jenna Ferguson remains a doubt while Courtney Stewart remains out.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game at home against Motherwell.
