Dundee United v Partick Thistle – 18th October 2014

Given the nature of the late drama it was a somewhat disconsolate Alan Archibald who spoke to ptfc.co.uk after the game.

“When you come to a place like Tannadice you know it’s always going to be tough but we had more than our fair share of chances today and I thought we deserved more from the game.

“We weren’t clinical enough when we did get our chances – we know that – but it was a good performance and there are plenty of positives to take from it.”

The game swung on a big moment of controversy when United striker, Nadir Ciftci broke through on goal and was ultimately fouled inside the box by Jags skipper, Dan Seabourne.

“In reference to the incident, Archie said: “I was very disappointed with the goal we lost. Our footage shows him [Ciftci] as being two yards offside. The fourth official’s telling us that our player touched the ball on the way through but we can’t see that.”

Above and beyond the result there are real positives for Alan to take from the performance, especially when comparing to the equivalent results from last season.

“They turned us over twice up here last season and there was certainly no danger of that today. We matched them all over the pitch and I think that shows that we have closed the gap between us and them since last season.

“The result is bitterly disappointing but there are plenty of positives we can take from it. The big thing is that we will be taking plenty of confidence into next week’s game at home to St Johnstone.”
