Christmas clothes collection to help Glasgow homeless

While Christmas is the best time of the year for most of us, it is one of the toughest for the city’s homeless.

For a variety of reasons, many people are forced to sleep on Glasgow’s streets in desperate need of basic items like socks, hats, gloves, scarves and warm clothing. So, as we approach December, Partick Thistle Football Club is calling on the Jags’ fanbase to help us help our city’s rough sleepers this Christmas.

The Club, in partnership with the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, is holding a clothing collection at The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill from November 29th to December 2nd. We’re looking for second hand clothing, for all ages, with a specific focus on warm and waterproof items. If you are looking to make a purchase specifically for the collection then new socks for adults would be most welcome.

Donations made to the club will be sorted and passed on to The Wayside Club Centre which provides both emergency assistance and practical support to the Glasgow homeless community.

If you have clothes that you would like to donate, you can do so by putting all items (please ensure they are clean and dry) into a large plastic or black bag. The drop off room will be located at the Jackie Husband Stand (just to the right of the main Jackie Husband Stand reception entrance) and will be open between 10am and 4pm on November 29th, 30th and December 1st and will also be open between 12pm and 3:30pm on December 2nd to facilitate donations ahead of the match against Hibernian. Signage will be in place to assist with directions.

Ian Maxwell, Partick Thistle’s MD, said:

“This is a Club known to have fans with big hearts. This is a tough time of the year for homeless people so I would urge fans to get behind this initiative and, together, let’s make a real difference this Christmas by helping those most in need.”
