Tomas Cerny was delighted with the three points and clean sheet which lifted Thistle off the bottom of the table in time for Christmas.
The goalkeeper hopes the victory and move up the table means the Thistle fans and players can enjoy Christmas that little bit more
Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “It is great to be off the bottom of the table for Christmas. Not just for us as players but for the fans too. Everyone can enjoy Christmas with their families that little bit more. They can relax a little and enjoy the festive period.
“It was a scrappy game won by a set piece but I don’t think anyone cares. It was great to win the game and take all three points. It was an important win, especially after the defeat at Dundee last weekend, we had to win the game and we manged to do it.
“We had to work hard for it and the conditions weren’t great. Hamilton made it hard for us but we managed to get the win and we are really pleased.”
The defence kept only their third league clean sheet but Cerny hopes it is the start of some defensive solidity and more clean sheets.
“It was pleasing to keep the clean sheet, especially as a defence. It was good to have a solid defensive performance. We have been leaking a lot of goals and defensively I don’t think we’ve been as solid as we were last season, so hopefully this can help turn things around and we can be a lot more solid.
“The three at the back is a shape which keeps us a lot more secure but I don’t think the shape is the most important thing. It’s about everyone doing their job and taking responsibility. It’s everyone defending as a team and I thought we done that today and got the clean sheet.
“I was pleased to make some saves, a couple of important interventions. A clean sheet is always nice for a goalkeeper. The conditions were hard and they had a number of set pieces but we defended well and that was important.”
The win makes it four wins from five at The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill but the Jags away form is still poor, something Tomas is hoping to start correcting on Wednesday against Aberdeen.
“We’ve been on a good run at home recently so it was great to continue that run and make people fear coming to The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill. We now need to start picking up points away from home too.
“Aberdeen is a tough place to go, they are a good side doing well in the league but we’ve managed a result there before and we’ll go up in confidence hoping to try and build on this win and put some more points on the board.”
