Slater hoping to book last 16 place

Craig Slater is hoping to make it four wins from four as Thistle entertain Ayr United at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill in the final Betfred Cup group game.

It’s a winner takes all clash with the victor guaranteed a place in the last sixteen.

It’s a match Slater is looking forward to, speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “We’re all looking forward to it. We know it’s going to be a tough game, Ayr have got some really good results and like us they have won the last three games.

“It’s all set up for a good game and we want to go out and get all three points. We’ve got home advantage and hopefully it’ll be good for the fans to turn out and see a good win.

“We want to put on a show for them and send them away with a win like we did last time against Morton. We’ve got a lot of new players and we want the fans to see what we are building here with the squad.”

With three wins on the bounce so far, Craig is hoping to continue that run before the league season starts, ironically away to tomorrow’s visitors Ayr United.

“Momentum and confidence is important, you want to win every game and we play Ayr again in the first game of the league season too so psychologically it would be a good game to win.

“We know the win takes us through and that’s a big thing mentally, we don’t have to look at other teams it’s all in our hands and if we win we are seeded too. We’ve worked hard in the games so far and we need to go out again and work just as hard.”

With so many new faces, including Slater’s, in the Jags lineup the Thistle number 17 feels the games have been useful so far for getting partnerships built.

“We’ve had a fairly settled team so far and the games have come thick and fast, we are getting used to each other’s games and it’s only going to get better. With more bodies coming in it’s only going to improve the squad and give competition for places.”

The midfielder is now hoping to keep hold of the midfield slot by working as hard as he possibly can.

“I’ve obviously got a starting jersey at the moment but there’s good players looking for those jerseys and you always want to be pushed and have someone breathing down your neck to get that spot.

“Everyone is working hard in training and really looking to do the best that they can, to prove a point and that’s certainly the case for me. I want to try and prove a point and play as many games as I can.”
