Two goals in just under two minutes settled the Ladbrokes Premiership fixture with Aberdeen in the visitors favour. Alan Archibald was a deflated man at full time and believes his side should have got at least a point from the game.
“It’s very hard on the players. We played very well tonight, particularly in the second half and I think the players deserved to pick up something from the game on the basis of their performance.
“We went in front through a wonder goal and we had worked extremely hard to get that strike. Aberdeen showed theirquality to get two goals and that proved to be the difference between the sides.”
Thistle had looked comfortable in their lead before Aberdeen’s quick fire duo and the gaffer was disappointed about the way the lead was relinquished.
“It’s two fast goals. Aberdeen didn’t really look like scoring and then they got one when Considine heads home at the back post. We then conceded a goal from a set piece and we were unable to get back into the game.
“I don’t think the team fell apart, we just conceded a goal from nothing and then were punished immediately after. I thought we had Aberdeen on the ropes and if you can grab the second goal to go two-nil up then you’ve got a very good chance of taking three points.”
Mathias Pogba and Gary Fraser linked up extremely well in the 66 minutes that the duo were on the pitch, providing encouraging signs for Archie.
“Mathias had a great game holding the ball up well and bringing others into play. Gary Fraser was the player we know he can be and he played a couple of excellent balls into the box during the course of the game but we weren’t able to bundle them home.
“It’s a developing partnership and one that we’ll be looking to improve moving forward. Pogba is getting better all the time with games under his belt and he’ll hope to finish the season strongly. Gary hasn’t had many minutes on the pitch and that was why we had to remove him with 20 or so to go. It’ll be a very tired dressing room this evening but the side are back in action on Saturday lunchtime in front of the Sky Sports cameras for the visit of Celtic.
“Everyone in that dressing room is down and deflated at the way the game has panned out. We put an awful lot of effort into that game and there are a number of tired legs in thedressing room.
“We’ve shown again that we can match the top sides in the league and if you take out the two crazy minutes where we conceded goals we did well against a side that are competing for the title. We’ve got to take confidence from the last two games and go out on Saturday and look to turn all our hard work into points.”
