Bannigan: Nothing but a win matters

Stuart Bannigan knows exactly what needs to happen on Saturday as Thistle travel to face Falkirk, they have to come back with all three points and it doesn’t matter how they do it.

Bannigan knows the result on Saturday is huge and how vital getting the win is.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he admitted: “We know nothing but three points matter on Saturday. We have to go out and do whatever needs to be done to get three points.

“The result is all that matters. The players know what has to happen in this match, we have to win it. We know what happens if we don’t, we know the position we are in. We have got ourselves where we are, and it’s only us that can get us out

“The performances haven’t been good enough, the results haven’t been good enough and we need to go out and get the win to look to move us up the table as soon as possible.”

Stuart was upbeat heading into the game and hoped to continue from the better performance against Inverness that in the end counted for nothing

“We felt that last week we put in a decent performance, obviously we are hugely disappointed with the result and losing the game but at least we created some chances, we had shots at goal and arguably the better team performance wise on the day.

“The boys are upbeat and we are looking forward to getting out there and trying to start turning this season around.

“We will take the positives from the Inverness game into this one but we don’t want to have to keep saying that, we don’t want to keep saying the same things every week and keep getting beat.”

The midfielder admits talk is cheap and it’s all about what goes on out on the park.

“It’s frustrating to hear it all the time, I know that but we have to take what we did well last week and improve on that and hopefully it leads to all three points.

“We tested the goalkeeper, we had chances and a missed penalty, on another day we could have won that match and we need to do more of the same things but look to make that lead to all three points.

“Taking the Morton game out of it, the games recently have all been really tight, in this league you will get that and we have to start finding ourselves on the right side of those tight games.”

Bannigan is positive things can change and he knows that they need to as soon as possible

“We have to believe in ourselves, it will turn, it has to turn. We feel we have good enough players to go out and win games, we go into games each week believing we can win but we need to do that, we can’t keep talking about it, people are sick of that, we have to go out and do it on the park.

“We’ve prepared as best as we can and we’ve looked at how we can best hurt Falkirk, how we can play to our strengths and we know exactly needs to be done.”

Banzo, who has been wearing the captains armband in recent weeks, feels the players must start to lift the Club, lift the fans and lift the team up the table.

“It’s down to the players to lift the spirits of the Club. We have to go out and fix this. We know we’ve let everyone down over the last 18 months to 2 years with the performances on the pitch and we know we are the ones that have to go out and fix that.

“We appreciate the support the fans give us, it’s up to us to entertain them, to start winning football matches and not just talking about it. They will hopefully travel well to Falkirk and I hope we can earn their backing. The players certainly appreciate their backing and its times like this we need it most.”
