Sean McGinty has put in some fantastic performances in recent weeks after returning to the starting eleven. Now, the defender is hoping to put in three more to help Thistle secure their Championship status.
That run of games starts on Tuesday night as the Jags travel to face Ayr. McGinty knows how important the game is and he is hoping to take advantage of it being Thiste’s game in hand on the other teams around them in the table.
Speaking to ptfc.co.uk McGinty said:
“It’s a real chance for us, the table is a bit false at the moment because we have the game in hand but it’s up to us to make the most of that by taking all three points.
“We are four unbeaten now and we will go looking to make it five knowing a win would take us right up the table and put us into a strong position going into the last two games of the season.
“We know we have three massive games left, we know what we have to play for, we have to go out and be 100% committed and that starts against Ayr on Tuesday.”
Sean put in a fantastic performance as Thistle came from behind to defeat Alloa and the defender was delighted with the team’s second half showing.
“It was a brilliant result against Alloa on Saturday, We weren’t great in the first half but the manager had words with us at half time and we came out and showed great character in the second 45. We really dug in and managed to get all three points.
“I said after the Ross County game there is enough in the dressing room to get us out of the position we are in, we showed that against Alloa. To come back from behind to a team that had won four in a row and were flying isn’t an easy thing to do and I’m sure now we’ll push on against Ayr.”
“We knew if we didn’t win it wasn’t looking good for us but we managed to get the win and we go into the Ayr game now full of confidence and hopefully we can push on and get out of the position we are in.”
The Jags number six feels keeping a clean sheet is important but knows starting the game well is vital.
“We started poorly against Alloa, we were the same against Dunfermline so we have to make sure we start the game well. We did well against Ross County and kept a clean sheet so I’m sure if we go to Ayr and keep a clean sheet we can get one at the other end.”
Sean is delighted to be back in the side after a period on the bench and he wants to make sure he makes his contribution to keeping the team in the division over the remaining three games.
“I had a while out of the team, the boys that came in have done very well so I had to wait for my chance. I managed to get that and I’ve played the last three and I’ve felt I’ve done well. I just have to go out there and be brave, we have to stay up so I’m just going out and giving my everything for the team.
“I had a lot of the ball against Alloa, they dropped off a lot and let me advance out with the ball, it’s something I enjoy doing and feel I can bring it to the team, however it’s about keeping the clean sheet first and foremost. That is the aim for Tuesday night.”
