The Business Club, in partnership with The Energy Check, offers local and national businesses the opportunity to network in unique surroundings. Events will be held frequently, taking different formats and with a selection of quality guest speakers covering a wide range of themes.
The Business Club is completely free to join with members receiving invites to a series of exclusive events. The next event is next the club’s first ever breakfast meeting and will be held on Tuesday 4th June at 8am. The special guest speaker for the event will be owner of Glasgow Rocks basketball team, Duncan Smillie:
Duncan is 48 years old, and while he was born in Whitburn, West Lothian, he moved south in his early 20s before returning to Scotland in 2015. His early career was in operations and logistics, moving into the supply chain at a senior manager level, before moving into technology in the mid-1990s.
Aged 29, Duncan was appointed Managing Director of Psion, a UK FTSE 250 Plc, and after nine years with this company he moved onto a Managing Director role for Douglas and Grahame, a UK Menswear fashion business. Duncan then joined the Board of Kerridge, a medium sized UK software business, where a management buyout was executed, with private equity from the American parent company. 5 years later the business was sold and Duncan returned to Scotland, to be based in Glasgow.
Duncan is currently the owner of Glasgow Rocks, Scotland’s only men’s professional basketball team, competing in the British Basketball League and playing out of the Emirates Arena. Duncan also holds two non-executive positions in the technology sector. He is a father of two boys aged 22 & 20, and describes himself as a huge football fan with a big social conscience.
