It's another home defeat for Thistle. 

The game's only goal came just before the hour mark when Brownlie headed home a El Bakhtaoui corner. 

Thistle's best play of the afternoon largely came after the concession of that goal but they couldn't fashion the equaliser that their play at that point would have merited but they were undone on more than one occasion by their own lack of composure. 

McCrorie comes off his line to claim McGinty's cross and that should be it. 

Cole takes the free kick and McCrorie manages to clutch on to the spinning ball.

Thistle press and probe fpr an equaliser and nearly find one. Williamson crosses from the right but Miller glances his header the wrong side of the post. 

Bannigan's pass can't pick out Miller's run into the Queens box. 

O'Ware's cross into the box drifts away from Miller and out for a goal kick. 

Cole, lurking 25 yards from goal, collects the ball and a thundering drive is about a foot too high. Thistle are pressing hard for an equaliser. 

Zanatta goes down in the box looking hopefully for a penalty that is never going to be given for that. 

Break in play as the Queens physio comes on to treat an injured player. 

Thistle are on top but not showing the composure needed to fashion an equaliser. Time is slowly starting to run out for the Jags. 

Cole tries his luck from distance and McCrorie gets down near his left hand post to safely stop an awkward bouncing shot. 

It's frustrating for Thistle as no one can gather a Williamson cross before a Zanatta shot his the legs of a defender. 

Thistle clear the corner and as they try and break the referee spots a Queens player down injured in the box and halts play. 

Queens slice Thistle open on the counter attack and only the legs of Fox deny Dobbie from extending the Queens lead. 

O'Ware strides forward and gets the ball out wide to Cardle on the right but his cross is far too close to the lkeeper who easily collects the ball. 

Williamson lays the ball back to Cardle but his cross is poor and goes out of play. 

Thistle should be level. Cole comes forward and finds Gordon in the box. Gordon only has McCrorie to beat but his touch is heavy which allows the keeper to half save. The ball breaks loose but Miller can't apply a finish either. 

Zanatta's shot from 20 yards out goes wide of target. 

Zanatta does well to keep a Robson pass in play and his cross is cleared. It's gathered by Miller who has a shooting chance at the edge of the box but he snatches at the ball and his effort goes harmlessly wide. 

This time Cardle sees his corner cleared before Queens win a free kick at the edge of their own box. 

Nearly an equaliser as McGinty's header is deflected over for another Thistle corner. 

Positive response from Thistle to the ;loss of the goal and Gordon's cross is blocked for a corner. 

Williamson plays a ball to the feet of Zanatta and his low shot goes narrowly wide. 

Thistle undone again by a failure to defend a cross into the box. El Bakhtaoui's corner is headed powerfully home by Brownlie. 

Queens put the ball out of play for Pybus to receive some treatment. 

Thistle have been the better side since the restart but Miller's header aside haven't made McCrorie work. 

Williamson does really well to get the ball over from the right bye line. His cross is met by the head of Miller but he heads into the ground and McCrorie has a comfortable save to make. 

Hamilton does well to hold off the attentions of O'Ware and plays the ball back to Dobbie at the edge of the box but he can do no more than lift a tame shot over the Thistle crossbar. 

Miller is at the heart of things for Thistle but neither Palmer or Gordon can apply a finish to his cross into the box. 

Gordon claims a corner as he gets his head to a cross from the left but the game restarts with a goal kick. 

Zanatta is a little unfortunate not to find Cardle with a low cross but Queens clear. 

It's far too easy for Queens there. Dobbie pokes a pass into the path of Holt and his low cross across the face of the Thistle goal really should have been touched into the net by someone. 

Although things improved as the half wore on for Thistle it was the visitors that looked the most likely to score during a goalless first half. 

Indeed they would have taken a narrow lead into the dressing room at half-time had Scott Fox not produced a fantastic save to push a net bound Mercer effort over the bar. 

Joe Cardle has come the closest to finding the net for Thistle with a couple of efforts going narrowly wide and one forcing McCrorie into a low save. 

Thistle though will be looking for a second half improvement if they are to claim the three points his afternoon. 

Cardle shoots from a few yards outside the box. His low effort sees McCrorie scrambling across his goal but Cardle's shot goes narrowly wide. 

Cardle twists and turns to find space for a shot but McCrorie is equal to his shot when it comes. 

It's a stunning save from Fox who somehow manages to twist his body to push Mercer's shot that was destined for the top corner round for a corner. 

No escape for Bannigan this time as Queens break quickly after clearing Cardle's corner.

Williamson's cross is headed behind for a Jags corner. 

Cardle gets the ball back after his corner is cleared and this time McCrorie comes off his line to claim the ball. 

Thistle look for a penalty as Palmer makes a run into the box but settle for a corner. 

Bannigan is a little fortunate not to collect the game's first booking for a late challenge right in front of the Queens bench. 

Cardle takes the corner, Thistle's first of the game, and Gordon tries to bundle the ball home but McCrorie has an easy save to make. 

Cardle takes the free kick. He gets the ball over the wall but also well over the crossbar. 

Zanatta is fouled a yard o so outside the Queens box almost bang on centre. 

Queens enjoy the break of the ball inside the Thistle box and that presents Dobbie with a real opportunity but his shot drops wide of Fox's left hand post. 

And out of almost nothing Thistle nearly conjure up a goal. Cardle picks the ball up the ball at the edge of the box on the left. He cuts across the box and even though a shot didn't really look on he manages to curl and effort just wide of McCrorie's left hand post. 

There seems to be a real edginess to Thistle's play so far this afteroon. 

Queens make full use of the width of the Firhill pitch and Pybus finds space on the right but makes a mess of his cross. 

Hamilton heads the ball on for Dobbie who gets in behind the Thistle defence. He looks offside though and the flag does eventually go up for offside. Queens still look the much more likely side to score at the moment. 

Some Queens fans think they have scored bu Dobbie's snatched effort hits the side netting and Thistle have a goal kick. 

Thistle haven't seen too much possession in the Queens half so far but that's much better. Robson plays a nice ball down the left for Zanatta. His cross is cleared but Thistle pick the ball up again. It's fed up to the feet of Cardle who shoots wide. 

El Bakhtaoui floats in the free kick and Brownlie is able to get his head to the ball but his effort, under pressure, goes well wide of the Thistle goal

It's the visitors that are having the better of things and they win a free kick about 25 yards from the Thistle goal in line with the corner of the penalty box. 

McGinty gets his head to El Bakhtaoui's corner and the ball goes out for a throw on the opposite sode. 

Both sides are keen to make an early impact and Palmer curls a shot wide of goal from just outside the Queen of the South box. 

Queen's nearly open the scoring inside the first 60 seconds. Dobbie threads a pass through to Pybus but his shot is blocked by an alert Fox.

Thistle get he game under way and will be shooting towards the city end in the first half. 

Queen of the South are the visitors this afternoon as Ian McCall makes his Firhill return and does so with confidence high following an excellent 3-1 win at Inverness last weekend. 

The 'new' Firhill gaffer starts today with the same side that started the second half at Inverness last week. Shea Gordon replacing Steven Saunders in the only change from the side that started 7 days ago. 

Alloa's victory last night over Dundee United saw Thistle slide to the foot of the league overnight but a three point haul for the Jags this afternoon would see them climb a couple of league places at least. 

All is set for an exciting 90 minutes of football.
