Thistle are safely through to the last 8 with a relatively comfortable win against a direct Connah's Quay Nomads side that posed Thistle only minimal threat.

Thistle Man of the Match: Osman Kakay.

As Bannigan breaks forward play is brought back for an earlier foul and a free kick for The Nomads which Thistle defend well.

Kakay's forward pass catches Robson just offside.

A long throw comes into the Thistle box and Insall is able to turn and shoot but his effort flashes wide of target.

That hopefully removes the likliehood of extra-time being rquired. It's an easy finish for Penrice who collects a pass from Robson before tucking the ball home from 6 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Bakare hooks the ball goalwards but it's an easy gather for Fox.

We're heading into the last 15 minutes now. Remember this game goes straight to penalties were it to finish level at the end of the 90 minutes.

Thistle are forced into defending another free kick aimed deep into their own box.

The Nomads work  short corner and Bakare gets a shotting opportunity but tamely finds the side netting.

Miller misses an absolute sitter after being set up by De Vita. He takes a touch to steady himself and from no more than 6 yards out and with virtually the whole goal to aim at hits the ball over the bar.

Fox doesn't claim the corner and the ball is hacked off the line but the referee had spotted a free kick in any case and Thistle have a free kick.

McGinty makes a great clearance from Roberts driven low cross into the Thistle 6 yard box. Good spell for the visitors.

Fox makes his first direct save of the game and it is a good one as he pushes away a well struck effort from the edge of the box from Morris.

Miller charges down Brass' clearance and that nearly brings Thistle and Miller some reward but the Nomads escape without any further damage.

Not quite sure what the intent was with that free kick but De Vita's free kick ends up in the arms of keeper Brass. De Vita looks at his team mates in anguish.

Cardle is caught a little late and Thistle have a free kick near the left edge of the Nomads box. A little too far out for a direct effort on goal though.

De Vita's flick from a cross on the right goes a yard or so over the crossbar.

Penrice's cross nearly drops invitingly for Kakay.

McGinty is forced to clear as Bakare gets in behind the Thistle defence on the Jags left.

As expected the free kick is thumped into the Thistlw box but the referee spots an infringement and Thistle have a free kick.

The Nomads win a free kick just inside the Thistle half but this will be aimed deep into the Jags box.

McGinty is back on and Thistle are back to full numbers.

McGinty is having to go off and get his cut forehead attended to. He clearly thinks that he was caught by the raised elbow of a Nomads player.

Thistle are well on top at the moment and De Vita isn't too far away from his and Thistle's second goal of the afternoon with an angled shot that goes narrowly wide.

Cardle's corner is headed clear.

Miller doesn't really catch a shot at the edge of the box cleanly but Brass still has to scramble to get the ball round the post.

The Nomads pump a free kick from just inside their half deep into the Thistle box. It forces Thistle back towards their own goal and twice shots come in that are well blocked by defenders.

Miller is in behind The Nomads defence but as he heads towards goal up goes the flag for offside.

It's  a simple yet well constructed goal for Thistle. Kakay is again involved as he plays a neat pass to wolliamson whose cross is met by De Vita who plants a firm header into the back of the net.

Break in play for The Nomads keeper Brass to receive some treatment. He looks to be holding his hamstring.

Kakay on the right has looked Thistle's best outlet for a chance and he does well to get the ball to Williamson whose cross is cleared.

Cardle's corner is deep towards the back post. Saunders is able to get his head to the ball but with two defenders in close attention he can't get above the ball and his header drops wide.

Brass has to scramble to turn a Miller header from a Cardle cross round the post for Thistle's first corner of the game.

Cardle spreads the ball out wide to Williamson. Williamson cuts inside from the right and from a few yards outside the box drags a left foot shot wide of goal.

It is another long throw ad Wilde sees his shot blocked when the ball falls into his path.

The Nomads have a throw right next to the Thistle corner flag. Another long throw incoming.

McGinty is back in action although his head is once again bandaged.

Play is halted for McGinty to receive some treatment.

Kakay, playing on the ride side of midfield, makes good progress down the right hand side but his cross is a little too deep and although Cardle does manage to hook the ball towards goal it's an easy catch for Brass.

Bannigan tries to send Cardle clear down the left hand side but Farquharson is too strong for Cardle and the ball goes out for a goal kick.

First promising signs from Thistle as Kakay and Williamson combine well down the rigth hand side but at the edge of the box Cardle can't find room for a shot and any chance is snuffed out.

Owen's corner is far too deep and The Nomads are forced back towards their own goal.

The nomads should have the lead. There is a terrible mix up in the Thistle defence that leaves Wilde with what looks like the simplest of chances to score but he doesn't get enough power behind his shot and the ball is cleare from near the goal line.

A long throw from Farquharson poses the Thistle defence some problems. They don't really get the ball clear and a shot comes in but it clears the crossbar.

Thistle kick the game off and are shooting towards the city end in the first half.

Is it late afternoon or early evening? Certainly a 5:15pm Firhill kick-off time is something a bit different. As our Tunnock's Caramel Wefare Challenge Cup opponents, Connah's Quay Nomads.

The Cymru Premier League side reached last season's Final and earlier this season knocked Kilmarnock out of this season's Europa League so there is little doubt that the Welsh side will provide Thistle with an extremely stearn test this afternoon.

There was disappointment for Thistle last weekend with defeat at home to Queen of the South and manager Ian McCall's team selection shows four changes from tha match.

Both Shea Gordon and Cammy Palmer are on international duty with Northern Ireland while Dario Zanatta is cup-tied. Tommy Robson meantime drops to the bench for this fixture.

Coming into the starting eleven are James Penice, Raffa De Vita, Osman Kakay and Steven Saunders.

Included among the six listed Thistle subs are Gary Harkins and Craig Slater who make their first appearances of the season as they recover from injury.
