Ryan Williamson admits the squad were massively disappointed not to win manager Ian McCall’s homecoming game in front of a big Firhill crowd.
After the win against Inverness, Thistle were looking to build on that result but went down to a second half goal against Queen of the South.
Speaking to ptfc.co.uk, Williamson was gutted after the match: “We came into the game on the back of a great result and performance last week up at Inverness. There was a big crowd in, and it was the gaffers first game at home, so we wanted to build on last week. We were looking for a big performance and result and we are hugely disappointed we’ve not been able to do that.
“I think we were unfortunate not to come away with anything from the game, I thought we controlled possession and passed the ball well, but we lost a goal from a set piece which we aren’t happy with and after that we just couldn’t break them down.”
The defender does admit however despite the possession they need to learn to add more urgency to the game and create more chances.
“We know we didn’t create enough clear-cut chances, that is something we have to work hard on in training. We have to move the ball quicker and add that wee bit of composure in the final third. We know what we have to work on and we’ll do that.
“This was the game we were all building up to, as soon as the manager came in, we pinpointed this game as one we wanted to go out and put on a show. With the number of games at the start it was the gaffers first full week of training, so we were all raring to go but we’ve not went out and got the result.
“We’ll take the positives from the game, the gaffer has told us that we obviously have a lot we need to improve on but there was a lot we did well. We have to believe that we are heading in the right direction and not be too down on ourselves. We can’t change it now so it’s about looking forward.”
Next up is a break from league action and something a bit different as Connah’s Quay Nomads visit in the Caramel Wafer Cup and the Jags number 2 is looking forward to it.
“We’ll work hard again this week; we’ll look to next week to try and bounce back and I’m sure we will do that. It’s a cup game, it’s a competition we want to do well in and we are looking forward to it.
It’s a bit of different opposition and we know it will be tough, but we are at home and we’ll be going out looking to win the game, we have the players and we believe we can win any game we go into.”
