🆚 Our Opponents: Aberdeen

Aberdeen come into this fixture having won 3-1 in the Scottish cup against Gartcairn in the Scottish cup a few weeks back. This will be their first game in league action in nearly a month due to postponements as a result of bad weather.

Aberdeen have had a change in management since their last meeting with PTW as Scott Booth took the reigns at Aberdeen recently following a stint as Leanne Ross’s number 2 at Glasgow City.

Thistle have enjoyed some good results away to Aberdeen, none more so than last season’s midweek game that had a lot riding on it. Rosie Slater grabbed her first goal in Thistle colours that night as we walked away with all 3 points.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle welcomed Montrose to Petershill on Sunday with a clear plan. Results hadn’t been going our way and a change of shape was the plan to get a result. Having played a back 5 for a few weeks now, Brian Graham went back to his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation.

Thistle started well as a flurry of chances ensued. It would be an Amy Bulloch corner meeting the head of Carla Boyce that would give us the lead as our number ten grabbed her fifth of the season. Just a couple minutes later Cara Henderson would see her grab another as Montrose Keeper Rowena Armitage fumbled a Shona Cowan shot from distance allowing Henderson to pounce on the 16 year old’s mistake.

Not long after Tiree Burchill hit the bar as Thistle continued their onslaught. Unfortunately, this would start the downfall of the first half as Demi Taylor made her way down the left flank picking out veteran Jade McLaren who made it 2-1. Just a couple minutes later McLaren would grab her second of the match tying things up at 2-2.

The second half would see the wind be the ultimate force in the match with both sides struggling to contain the ball as a result. Carla Boyce would strike first as she put the ball past Armitage for her second of the match granting Thistle the lead once more.

lthough, Demi Taylor again found herself down the left hand side and used the wind to her advantage as she lifted it over Currie from a tight angle tying things up once more.

The drama wasn’t over as a handball seen Thistle get a late penalty although Tiree Burchill dragged it wide meaning points were shared that afternoon at Peasy.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively. Our final game of a memorable 2024 awaits and we’d love to see as many Jags as possible as we travel up north to face Aberdeen.

🗞 Team News

Georgia Gray returns having served her suspension last weekend while Rosie Slater returns to the squad. Manager Brian Graham also hopes to add one or two others back to the matchday squad for this ones as the injury list starts to reduce.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Aberdeen..
