🆚 Our Opponents: Aberdeen

Aberdeen come into this fixture having won 3-0 in the Scottish cup against Hamilton Accies at the weekend. A good match against the SWPL2 side saw Aberdeen hit 3 in the final 15 minutes to secure their spot in the next round.

Aberdeen have had a change in management since their last meeting with PTW as Scott Booth took the reins at Aberdeen recently following a stint as Leanne Ross’s number 2 at Glasgow City.

Thistle have enjoyed some good results away to Aberdeen, none more so than last season’s midweek game that had a lot riding on it. Rosie Slater grabbed her first goal in Thistle colours that night as we walked away with all 3 points.

📈Thistle so far

Thistle had a couple weeks off due to the schedule around cup fixtures but were raring to go against a Dundee United side that had nothing to lose. Brian Graham opted to switch things up with his formation this time going for a 4141 approach that saw players show their versatility.

Georgia Gray slotted in at right back and didn’t look out of place, Tiree Burchill played deeper in central midfield alongside Lucy Sinclair while Caley Gibb occupied the left back role having originally signed for Thistle as a right wing. This unpredictability helped our game plan as we looked to get our first 3 points on the board in 3 months.

A strong start from Thistle saw Rachel Donaldson connect with a volley off an Imogen Longcake delivery while Caley Gibb caused Megan Burns to turn it into her own net not long before half time.

A real flurry of offense ensued in the second half as Imogen Longcake made it 3 pouncing on a loose ball by Beth Rennie off the goal kick having hit the post a few seconds earlier. Rennie stopped a few more dangerous strikes from Caley Gibb and Tiree Burchill before the latter managed to get her name on the scoresheet after a nice move between Carla Boyce and herself.

There were Thistle debuts made by 16 year old Mae English, who looked to have ability way beyond her years, and Olivia King who was very close to opening her Thistle account as a shot grazed the bar. Dundee United pulled a late consolation strike as Amy Taylor put it past Jeni Currie, who hadn’t really been tested the full match.

All 3 points went to Thistle in a much needed win.

Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have helped our girls massively. We would love to see as many of you make this midweek journey and help our girls bring a result back to Glasgow.

🗞 Team News

New signing Amy Richardson joined on loan from Celtic on Tuesday and could be in line for her debut in Red and Yellow. Kodie Hay continues to build fitness following her return from injury so could be in line to get some more minutes here.

As a part time club, most of our players have other commitments midweek for their jobs outside of football. This means that we might be missing some players due to work commitments.

With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field the best possible side heading into this fixture with a game against Aberdeen.
