It was honours even at the Balmoral Stadium as Aberdeen rescued a point deep into injury time.
Following last week’s defeat to Celtic, Thistle made a number of changes to the line-up: new signing Lucy MacNair was named on the bench, Rosie Slater returned to the starting eleven, and Rachel Donaldson missed out.
The closely fought match saw Thistle lead in the 75th minute, when Lia Tweedie netted her first goal for the Jags following a short corner that Aberdeen failed to clear.
Just as Thistle looked set for victory, Bridget Galloway’s late goal earned Aberdeen a point, a cruel blow for the Jags.
A bitter ending to a match which displayed many positives, one such was Tweedie opening her scoring account with Thistle.
Facing the media in the aftermath of the game, Tweedie expressed her thoughts on the point shared.
“It was very disappointing in the nature of how it ended up a draw, I just felt if we had a couple of minutes less in the game, we would have left here with three points.
“So, it is a really tough one to take, but focusing on the positives, we’ve got one point in, and it was a really solid performance and definitely something to build on”.
The point sees Thistle in 7th position on 4 points. Level with Aberdeen.
Speaking on the draw, Manager David Elliot gave his analysis of the game.
“Thoughts are that it’s a difficult place to come, always a difficult place to come, and if you asked me after the defeat last week if we would have taken the draw, yes, maybe.
“But we came and tried to win the game, and we got that goal; we looked as though we were hanging on, but it wasn’t to be.”
Elliot was full of praise for his squad and the opposition when addressing the media.
I was worried for them coming in on Tuesday, but as of Tuesday, last week was put to the back of their minds, as we talked about it during the week, Wednesday, Thursday, some great sessions they put in, and they were right up for this one, which showed right from the start they got right in about it.
“Aberdeen are a tough team to beat; other teams have come here and found it difficult as well. Not many chances in the game, we took the one and thought we were going to hang on.
“We might have taken the draw before we came up, but 1-0 after 98 minutes, and they scored another goal. It was really disappointing; the girls are gutted. But we need to take the positives and move on.”
The Jags are back in action next week, with a tough home battle in which they welcome Rangers to Petershill.
