Thistle survive a bit of a late Ayr onslaught, albeit one with no clear cut chances, to claim a massive three points. 

Thistle goal kick in the 5th minute of injury time. 

Thistle free kick midway inside their own half. 

It's a Thistle throw but deep inside their own half. 

Ayr look for a corner but it is a Thistle goal kick that Sneddon is no hurry to take. 

Into injury time

It's a good corner from McAlear but no Ayr player can get a telling touch to it. Thistle have a goal kick. 

Albinson tries to help an injured Mullen off the pitch. 

Reading gets a free kick beyond a two man Thistle defensive wall but his effort isn't threatening the goal and Thistle have a goal kick. 

Bannigan does well to get the ball through to Fitzpatrick and Albinson is just able to cling on to Fitzpatrick's shot. Some brief respite for Thistle. 

Akinyemi is too strong for Holt, but from a tight angle he can't find a way past Sneddon. 

The Ayr fans are enraged as the flag goes up for offside against Akinyemi looks set to collect a long ball forward, 

It's mostly long range efforts from Ayr and McAllister sees his go wide of target. 

Thistle, now with a back five, are seeing less and less of the ball as the game is getting payed mostly in the Thistle half. 

A ,low drive from Reading brings out a save from Sneddon low to his left. 

Aye are again able to threaten. The ball is worked wide to Mullin at the right edge of the box but his shot is a shade too high and lands on the roof of the Thistle net. 

O'Connor tries a shot from distance that Sneddon can watch go over the bar although it wasn't too far away. 

Bryden has the ball at his feet inside the Thistle box but can do no more than lift a tame cross into the waiting arms of Sneddon. 

The rain is really pouring down and the Thistle fans on the open terrace and joining those behind the goal that simply haven't stopped singing all afternoon. 

Docherty has the chance to shoot from long range but the ball clears the Ayr crossbar with a bit to spare. 

Docherty gets enough of a head to Mullin's corner to get the ball clear of the box. 

The game's come to life now and it takes a good challenge from Holt near the edge of the Thistle box to hold up an Ayr counter attack. 

And play quickly moves to the other end where Akinyemi gets to the ball ahead of Sneddon only to see the ball roll narrowly wide. 

It's been a fairly quiet start to the second half but Tiffoney isn't far away from getting the touch required to a Lawless cross that was required for a second Thistle goal. 

Thistle get the game back underway. 

It's a narrow, but merited, lead for Thistle at the interval with Danny Mullen, on as an early sub for an injured Dowds, heading home a McMillan cross. 

It could, and really should, have been two just before the interval when Turner fired over the bar with only Albinson to beat. 

At the other end Ayr opportunities have been limited with Muirhead and Holt dealing well with any aerial threat. 

It's been a positive first 45 minutes for Thistle but there is still loads of football to come. Kris Doolan will be looking for a continuation of his side's first half performance after the restart. 

Another chance for Turner though not so gilt edged this time. He manages to squeeze out a shot at the edge of the box that misses target by only a foot or so. 

Thistle miss a glorious chance to extend their lead. Tiffoney picks up a loose ball and works himself into a position to thread a pass through to Turner. Turner only has the keeper to beat but shoots over he bar when a goal looked the most likely outcome. 

There is  a scramble at the edge of the Thistle box before the ball spins away for a goal kick. 

Dempsey is perhaps fortunate not to see another colour of card following his challenge on Docherty. 

Thistle take the lead. Lawless finds McMillan down the right. McMillan lifts a high cross into the danger area and Mullen is there to head the ball home. 

It's become a bit scrappy with Muirhead having to hurry a clearance after a heavy touch from Sneddon. 

There's a lecture, but no card, for Bannigan after a challenge on Mullin. 

With Thistle short at the back with Milne hobbling back after picking up a knock in a previous Thistle attack, Ayr have Thistle under a bit of pressure until McAllister skies a shot high over the bar. 

Milne's high foot when challenging McAllister for the ball as Turner's corner comes over earns the home side a free kick. 

Lawless gets a flick to Turner's corner but his header takes the ball away from the Ayr goal. 

Muirhead tries a low drive from at least 35 yards out that goes well wide of goal. Thistle on top at present though. 

The ball is the back of the Thistle net but the ball had already crossed the goal line for a Thistle goal kick. 

Albinson clutches hold of Mullen's low cross at his front post as Thistle enjoy a good spell of possession 

Lawless and Mullen link down the right but there are no takers for Mullen's deep cross towards the back post. 

Bryden twists his way past two Thistle challenges but Milne is there to clear his cross. 

Looks as if Thistle will be forced into an early change with Dowds nursing what looks like a hamstring injury. 

Mullin makes a mess of the free kick and the ball drifts out of play for a Thistle goal kick. 

Docherty is penalised for handball and Ayr have a free kick and a chance to test the Thistle defence. 

Nearly a dream start for Thistle. The ball spins to Dowds who sets up Tiffoney for a chance but Albinson blocks. 

It's Ayr that kick the game off. Thistle shooting towards the traditional home end in the first half. 

Interim manager Kris Doolan includes six former team mates in his first Partick Thistle line-up. 

The six being Jamie Sneddon, Jack McMillan, Stuart Bannigan, Steven Lawless and Aaron Muirhead, all team mates at Firhill, plus Ross Docherty a team mate from his time as an Ayr United player. 

There are three changes from the side that started against Rangers in the Scottish Cup. In come Anton Dowds, Steven Lawless and Ross Docherty. 

Brian Graham misses out due to suspension while Lee Hodson and Connor McAvoy will start the afternoon on the substitute bench.
