💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Celtic have had a great season so far as they sit top of the table with 73 points, tied with bitter rivals Rangers in second position. Celtic gaffer Elena Sadiku will be hoping for a repeat of her last victory over the Jags having won comfortably in April.
Celtic’s squad has many talented individuals who could all impact the game in a number of ways. Caitlin Hayes has a history of scoring against the Jags with the Republic of Ireland international having done so again last time out. Murphy Agnew be hoping to repeat her form against Thistle come Sunday after she grabbed a brace in the previous matchup while fan favourite Natasha Flint also grabbed two against Thistle that afternoon as she continues to impress having returned in January.
There are many others who possess a threat within the Celtic lineup and, while it is impressive how they have adapted to their new manager’s style of play, it will be up to our girls to stop them gaining another 3 points in this Glasgow Derby, giving the title race a tight showdown.
We traveled through to the capital to face Hearts knowing it would once again be a tough fixture.
Having lost just 3-0 a few weeks prior on our home turf, we knew the dangers they would have. That being said, a midweek win against Hibs gave Thistle confidence as they looked to gain some points and put pressure on 5th position.
The Jags were unfortunate to miss a few players as well with Aimee Anderson and Shona Cowan both ineligible having been on loan from the Edinburgh outfit while our Imogen Longcake was forced out due to injury, a huge blow considering how well she has played in recent times.
Hearts controlled the game in the first half, not letting the jags do much at all. A quick fire double from Kathleen McGovern saw Thistle down 2-0 at halftime, a scoreline Brian Graham thought was fortunate considering the performance. A much better 2nd half followed from Thistle despite Katie Lockwood putting in a 3rd for Hearts as Cara Henderson overtook her top scorer tally from last season and tucked in a 12th from the penalty spot. Kodie Hay scored her first goal in Thistle colours and what a hit it was as she curled it past Johnstone into the top corner. Overall a defeat but a second half we can be proud of.
Strong followings from the Red and yellow army have helped our girls out a lot this season. It would be great to see as many of you as possible for this Glasgow Derby as we travel away for this Fixture in Lanarkshire.
Shona Cowan has continued to work on her recovery having spent many weeks out injured. A potential return to the matchday squad is on the horizon for our loanee and could very well make the squad against Celtic.
Imogen Longcake missed out last week against Hearts however has been showing positive signs and could make the Matchday squad for this away match.
With that being said, it will be up to the gaffer and the rest of the management team to field their best possible side heading into this fixture as we make the trip to the Excelsior for a Glasgow derby.
